Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
The Repairman said that a small plastic piece had broken and that the whole door would have to be replaced. This refrigerator was less than 2 years old and has not had anyone abusing the ice paddle to make this piece break. I bought a Whirlpool brand refrigerator because I thought it would be the best brand to buy. Now I am told the hold door will have to be replaced at my expense. I had a GE Refrigerator that was 39 years old and was still working fine. It did not have the ice & water feature in the door so I decided to buy the new Whirlpool with this feature. Boy, I am really disappointed in this refrigerator. This is a defect on Whirlpool's part and I think that Whirlpool needs to stand behind their products and when this happens, they should replace the defective part free. If this was an automobile defect, they would have a recall of this model/models and fix them. What is Whirlpool going to do about this problem?
We are very sorry to hear this and we apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. We would be glad to look into this if you could email us at Whirlpool_Digital@Whirlpool.com with your name, address, phone number and the model & serial numbers of the Refrigerator.

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door. Set for cubed ice. Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise. That is the sound of the solenoid. You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down. Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into. If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work. If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced. Let me know what you find.

check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace it with a new one.
