If you are installing a new printer, you should not need to remove the toner cartridge from the old one. If however you are trying to replace the toner cartridge, when you open the device, there should be a off color button you press to release the cartridge from it's position so you can remove it.

Replace Toner with gen cartridge.
Or Take cartridge back as faulty after checking that it was opened and installed correctly.
Check display on printer for indications that maybe it needs one of the 3 colour toners indicators are Y,C or M
K is black
