Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Reloaded WIN XP and Guide plus , Guide plus will not update

I have an ATI card and the Guide plus software and after reloading WIN XP PRO and the ATI software the Guide plus will not update. It keeps giving me the error "Failed to Connect to the server. Please check the internet connection and try to download again." I have reset Guide Plus to use the IE proxey settings and to do not use proxy settings. It does not seem t make a difference.

Installed new video card, system reboots

your current graphics card settings is not set to the correct level to match your system, you can download ATI Catalyst software from this link:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

after installing, you may have to restart your computer. when you restart, right click on the desktop and select (ATI catalyst), there you can adjust your graphic card features or you can use the recommended settings the software have adjusted for your graphic card by clicking on restore settings/defaults.

you should not encounter problems once you have installed the ATI software.

Have you checked if your windows has the latest service packs?
The equipment does no require special software, generally windows XP should be able to install it automatically, just plug in the USB card.

Your best bet is to go to AMD's website (AMD bought ATI) for the latest driver for the card. You did not specify the full part number, or the operating system, but here is one location as a starting point. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/theater550-xp
In today's rush to market environment, vendors frequently ship product before the software is ready.

The driver & Catalyst Control Center for the ATI Radeon 9600 Series is listed below for Win XP home & Pro. Lasted updated Jan-16-2008.

Your install will run better if you remove previous software versions for the Radeon 9600. If your attempt to remove old software fails. ownload & run ATI's cat-uninstaller.exe found here.:

Screen resolution jumps every 15 seconds

Try this as follows: 1) Remove any ATI graphics drivers from your PC. 2) Install your driver from the original disc. 3) if it works, ok, if not, update to the latest driver from ATI's website. 4) if that doesnt work, try to maunally delete registery entires of ATI, IN SAFE MODE of course. then remove the driver of ATI, then install it from CD, again, if it works, ok, if not, update it from ATI website.
