My Gateway computer will not boot up. I

When you start your pc with the windows xp disc in the cd rom it will ask to boot from the disc and you click enter/yes or whatever is on screen.Make sure you have selected your cd/dvd rom as first boot device in the bios(press f2 when your pc starts and look for the boot menu among the items on display and follow the instructions on the right of the screen as regards making changes) .During the install of windows xp or whatever system you have there will be a warning that another operating system was detected and you need to remove this before continuing,some time after this a option will be for a clean install with the option to format the harddrive and take that then follow the rest of the install prompts to load windows further.If you google "how to installing win xp " in a google search the first site will be microsoft who explain everything in detail on the 3 ways to install windows,including using a floppy boot disc(available from boot disc.com free) but this is tricky for anybody not sure of wht needs doing.If you cannot find the page from microsoft post a email address from a free account like hotmail or google etc( to avoid junkmail etc).Before you format your drive download panda cloud antivirus free and zonealarm free firewall as well as service pack 3 from microsoft as well as any drivers from your manufacturer to make reinstallation much easier.If you dont have cd or dvd burning software go to N.C.H/download.com or cnet.com or pcworld.com who have lots of freeware applications that are 100% safe and free.I know its frustrating not knowing these things but i found all this out the hard way after numerous pc shops ripped me off after viruses and harddrive failures so dont give up.
