Question about Acer X193W LCD Monitor

"No signal" msg on new Acer X193W LCD Monitor with Vista 64-bit

I have an new HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Notebook and just bought a 20" X193W Acer LCD monitor. Went through the set up menu and I think answered the questions correctly but not sure. Only thing on CD that came with monitor was instruction book 1 page in English rest of about 20 pgs in foreign languages.. Just told you how to plug it in--no installation disk. Tried to do the "add hardware" but it didn't show monitors. Don't see Displays or monitors in my control panel... Searched for drivers on Google and found this site. The message I get is "No signal". I know the cable is plugged in properly because if I unplug it, msg comes up on screen stating "cable unplugged) I.. I'm no computer expert but I am thinking it had to do with the first set up or Vista 64-bit maybe??? Help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jodi

It was helpful (I didn't know about right clicking on desktop to find the monitor settings--was trying to find it in control panel) but I did what you said, but #2 says "not active" and when I click on it nothing happens.. Appreciate your help!

Ok, I had to go to something called ATI Catalyst Control and got it to work on extended screen--I could move cursor over to the other monitor, but what I want is to use the external monitor when working at home not both at once.... Thanks! Jodi

OK, Now I got it to work on both screens at the same time. Still have a couple of questions...
    (1) On my HP mini when it was really small I made the type larger, but now with the 19inch monitor it is huge.. can't remember where I went to adjust resolution. I found that slide bar but it was gray'd out and could't increase it, and type is so large I can't get to the bottom of that screen.
    (2) Is there a way to turn the screen off on the HP mini without it going off on the duplicate larger monitor? (No sense to waste both monitors at the same time..)

Thanks much for any help you can give.

    Jodi

I downloaded the latest driver. I found the two places you mentioned to make the print smaller but it is so huge (both places) there is no way to scroll down after I make my selection to save it... Sorry to be such a problem child ;-)

OK, I finally was able to move down far enough to see the tip of the button OK, so clicked it, rebooted and still no change.

  • jodi453 Jun 22, 2009

I do have options for screen resolution as I mentioned in my last comment.. but it was so large and no way to scroll down to save or click OK.. but finally I did see the tip of the OK button and clicked it, rebooted, but still big. Went to the other option through ATI and there are different options, but they don't hold either. 60Hz is selected. Under the "personalize" method, the highest resolution shown is 800x600 which is selected. Under ATI I can select higher resolution but it doesn't work.

  • jodi453 Jun 22, 2009

Tab button (and down arrow) both just go from one selection to another (eg: DPI page, arrow does nothing. Tab goes from 96 DPI button to 120 DPI button. I leave it on 96 DPI but since I can't get to the bottom to save, it doesn't get saved. (also tried CTRL + and - etc. which works on other stuff but not on that screen. On Monitor screen, slide bar for resolution does't work on monitor 1, but does on monitor 2. I change it and on that screen I can see the very top of the OK button, so I click it but nothing happens. rebooted.. still nothing.

  • jodi453 Jun 22, 2009

That is just is what this "senior citizen" needed was OLD SCHOOL! On the DPI screen, you were on the right track with tab (which didn't work) but using Enter worked!!!!! Thank you SOOO MUCH!

You are SO patient.. I really appreciate your help.
    thanks again,

This should be easy...go to your desktop...right click on it and choose "personalize" it will open up a window. on the bottom it will say display settings...click on it...at the top right it should say "identify monitors" click on that...if that dosent work.click on the monitor that has a 2 on it and it will ask you if you want to add a monitor...it should work
if not, post a comment and i will check back with you

    np,

1, when you right click desktop then personalize, there will be an option on the left that says "adjust font size(dpi)"

2, you should be able to turn off your original monitor 2 ways...either though display settings ( the 1 or 2 monitor I described before) or in your ATI catalist center under the monitor tab

its always best to make sure you have the latest verison of your drivers..heres a link where you can download the most updated drivers

ok then..its weird that you dont have any options for screen resolution...you certainly should...they should be under display settings in personalization or in your ati center...

try this..click advanced settings, under display settings...it will give you another way to get to ati...

also make sure that your refresh rate is set to 60hz

  • aklarichjr Jun 22, 2009

ok...were going old school then...after you make your selection, be it font size or resolution, hit the "tab" button untill your selection (save or OK) is highlighted then hit enter to select

  • aklarichjr Jun 22, 2009

you should also be able to use the arrow keys to scroll the page

  • aklarichjr Jun 22, 2009

remember in my first post how I said this will be easy?...lol

when you change dpi setting (or resolution) with tab try to just hit enter..by default you shoud be prompted to save and it should already be highlighted.

When you change screen res. you should not have to reboot...it should take a couple of secs to refresh

also under personalize you can go to "mouse pointers"..under pointer options tab, check the box that says "snap to" that will auto put your mouse on the default box

how did you navigate on the old screen?

glad to help... all probs solved and all is right with the world now?
