Question about Acer Aspire 5920-6727 Notebook

1 Answer

My Acer Aspire 5920 gets very hot within 20-30 mins of booting it up with the fan running on high speed to cool it down, everything then slows down and it almost stalls. The sound is very draggy and sounds sort of like it echoes. Then it fails to read the wireless card and also other inportant drives that it needs. What could be causing this and what do I need to do to fix it?

The heatsink vents and fan could be clogged with dust. Remove the dust etc from the vents/fan, may have to remove vent panels to get to the hearsink fan assembly.
If the laptop has vents on the bottom, use the laptop on a flat surface to get good airflow, or purchase a fan assisted base that gives boosted airflow to the bottom of the laptop.

Way to slow down the z5610 acer fan? it runs loud after 2 years.

http://computershopper.com/desktops/reviews/acer-aspire-z5610

A) Needs to be opened up. Needs to be cleaned out inside.

Two years? Bet it looks 'scary dirty' inside. After you have cleaned out the inside, donate the 'Gunk' to local mice. They can use it for a condo. (I would charge them rent)

B) Processor may need old Thermal Paste replaced. Clean top of Processor, and bottom of finned Heatsink, and PROPERLY apply fresh, new Thermal Paste.

Primer:
Air is used to cool the inside of that All-In-One desktop computer. The Processor and graphics chipset, are the two hardware components that give off the most heat.

The finned Heatsink, and Processor Fan, are the two cooling components for the Processor. When they get clogged with 'Gunk' over the years, the cooling capacity drops -> tremendously.

The Processor fan sensor, senses that the Processor is too hot, and speeds the Processor fan up. Also BIOS speeds the computer case fan/s up.

Could also be that the bearings for the fan/s are bad. Replacement fan, or fans are needed.

ONE THING HOWEVER Karl, to work on this All-In-One you need to wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip connected to a good ground source.
This is just like working on a LAPTOP computer, NOT a desktop.

Average example,

(And of course unplugged from power)

Need guidance in cleaning, and replacing the Thermal Paste, just post back in a Comment. I will guide you.

TOO HIGH TEMPERATURES AT MY LAPTOP ACER ASPIRE 5735Z

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

The first thing I would check is that the cpu fan is working. You should be able to see the fan come on from the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes the fans can stick from dust and dirt. Then the cpu will get very hot and cause the computer to slow way down. Try using a can of compressed air on the fan and see if it starts working. If the fan is working ok then you might have some type of virus or corrupted installation causing the computer to slow way down. You could try pressing F8 right before windows starts to load. This will bring up a boot menu. Then try booting the computer in safe mode with networking and see if it boots up fairly quickly. Once it boots up in safe mode run your virus scanning software to see if there are any viruses on your computer.

Hi,

Its overheating, clean the fan out.

Also, make sure your bios is up to date and that your power settings are not set to shut down after a certain amount of time.

Thanks

Acer 5570 southbridge overheats and shutsdown

well,if you r able to get to bios then check power managment sction and reduce CPU speed and try to deactivate one of the peripherals that is responsible of thi shorting out= over warming.

as long as the southbridge chip over warms every time you turn on you laptop thats mean the S.B is facing a shorting out on it IC.

you can clean underneath/surround it.

plz rate.
