Question about NetGear : WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, RETAIL (DSNGWG111)

WG111: junk? Extremely slow speeds and getting dropped a lot

Just bought this, and the PC it's connected to is also new (w/Vist of course). My connection is PAINFULLY slow (download speeds running at about 1K/sec!) and I get dropped a lot, what the ----? I have a laptop using the same wireless connection (with XP) and it runs fine, as it always has. All are "G" rated. Are these things known to be junk or is there some possible fix I don't know about? Thx!

    Your help is highly appreciated, but when I set up my wireless (and just tried re-setting it out of desperation), I did set it to a specific channel...and the "netgear wizard" always shows that channel for my wireless under the "Network" tab. Further, at the bottom it even says "connected to router." But now I cannot connect at all.

    And I can't get the driver because my laptop doesn't have a CD R/W so I can move it to the new PC. Regardless, you would think Netgear would be shipping adapters that work with Vista by now.

Make sure to set the wireless chanel on to a specific channel. As with Vista there are some issues with wireless connection when the router is broadcasting at AUTO mode. Try diffrent channels on the router and choose the one that works best.

Also, it is advisable to resintall the adapter using the latest adapter drivers from the link below:

Hope this helps.

    Try installing the latest driver for the adapter. You may use a flash drive to transfer instllation files. Please specify the verison of this adapter. v2 and v3 of this adapte are compatible with Vista if installed with the latest driver.

You have a lot of programs that are running at the same time unnecessarily.
The first thing you should do is to install this
http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
Run it, it will delete a lot of junk and don't close *** after that. Go to Utilities / Admin Tools / IObit uninstaller and in there identify every program that you don't use (google them if you never heard about them - you don't want to uninstall a driver or something similar) and uninstall it. Next go to Startup Manager and untick every program that is not absolutely required to start (drivers and security). Now run ASC again and reboot - you pc should be fast again.

Will not load games

First of all get a good Antivirus software and scan your PC thoroughly after UPDATING it. Updating the Virus software is extremely important.
Secondly after doing the above step install a Registry cleaning software. I recommend Uniblue Registry booster or Regcure. Virus and unclean registry are number 1 reasons to PC slow down.
Check your hard disk if it is near to full. Use the Windows built in disk cleaning software to clean unnecessary files. After that De-fragmenting the disk will also help a lot. To de-fragment a disk Go to accessories in the start menu and then go to system tools. Find disk de-fragmentation and run it the PC performance will dramatically enhance but Virus and registry cleaning is recommended to be done first.

Good luck!

Extremely slow internet connection and computer due to registry corrupt.
The Windows registry is a database repository of information about a computer's configuration.

Runs slow on video downloads

Hello Sir,

downloading speed depends on internet connection not on PC specification.

If your transfer is low then downloading will also be low.

Take note that source from which you are downloading also must have reliable connection.

cheers,
Mike

Video on HP Compaq nx9010 PC Notebook is extremely slow even on BIOS page. Is it due to some virus?

I don't think it's possible for a virus to effect the Bios page. If it's slow in the bios page then there is probably a problem with the video card or the monitor.

My pc is extremely slow, I have even formatted and instal a new version of Windows Xp service pack 2 to my PC pentium-3 with 256 RAM but there is still no change. Need some one to help me out.

slow pc is the cause of many problems.
1=firstly,use disk cleanup.
2=secondly,regularly defragment your hard disk.
3=thirdly,try to switch over to pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or intel core 2 duo.
4=at last,change your motherboard to ddr2 Ram supporting Board.

Slow pc

Using different products for anti-virus, firewall and anti-adware is fine in itself. I am not sure if you mean that the downloading is slow (which can be if you download all these programs at the same time), or if you PC is slow in general.

Personally I used a lot of speed tweaking tips from www.PCauthorities.com Some is advanced, but a lot is easy to understand.
