Question about Sony Ericsson K800i Cellular Phone
I need help with my k800i.
it first started acting up by not allowing me to set pictures as my background. to try sort this i switched my phone on and off again, but when it came back on i was faced with a white screen (wsod?)
i can receive texts but cannot see them to read them. i can attempt to reply but again, cannot see what i'm saying and i can still receive calls.
i tried using wotanclient but this didnt work.
i also tried XS++ and this didn't work either.
OK, based on your description, you have a corrupt operating system. You're immediately pre-WSOD. I know because I've been there..
If you're good at computers, you can reflash your phone yourself. Once I found a good tutorial, and got over my fear of bricking the phone, it was quite easy - mine corrupted twice, and I've reflashed twice..
Some claim to have been able to do backup of the files on the phone. It might be possible since yours isn't quite WSOD yet.
You need the k800i drivers on your computer first. They should be on the CD that came with the phone. You absolutely need to acquire those drivers before trying to flash it!
Second, you need the phone to USB cable. Any USB cable for that generation of SE phones will do.
Then you should do a backup of the GDFS. This is useful for two reasons - finding out what your current firmware version is, and other info that resides in there that is useful when reflashing. The phone book is also in there, but the text messages are lost.
Then, you need the software for the phone, and unless you have an existing backup, you need to acquire that from a website. Then flash the phone, and then import the GDFS backup you did before flashing.
Here's a tutorial. I think this is what I used (or similar). I used the software mentioned here, at least:
The last time I flashed mine, I got a software version much newer than my original. A lot of things were different. You can actually flash it with k810i software as well, if you're adventurous (better camera software).
