Continue to dispense water for a min or two to push the air out of the filter. If that does not work insure the filter is seated properly and if you still have no luck return the filter for another.
It's possible the water filter is not fully seated and pressure builds up and pops out. Try removing and reinstalling the filter. Also check the filter to see if a seal on the new filter was not removed prior to installation.
The water Has to be going out the 'backwash' or 'waste' line.Either that or you have a leak in the plumbing. If the backwash/waste valve is set in the 'filter' position and there is still water escaping through the backwash/waste line, it means that the o-ring or spider gasket needs to be replaced or re-seated. If it is a multi-port valve (one that you spin to select the setting as opposed to a 'push/pull valve) you can try shutting off the pump; do a complete turn, 360 degrees, from the 'filter' setting all the way back to the 'filter' setting. This sometimes helps the spider gasket re-seat
Remove seat, two bolts at rear...
unscrew wing bolt located in the middle of the air filter element
remove filter, and clean the mating area in the air box (WD-40 works well) Make sure not to get any dirt in here!!!
Remove the inner air filter cage, Clean the air filter (Stock ones are foam) I use kerosene or gas, but be careful, wash it then with soapy water and let it dry completely.
Use a foam filter oil, either spray on or in a bottle, and make sure it's covered completely, and tacky, not soaked. (I use Bel-Ray foam filter oil) Replace the air filter cage
Put a small bead of grease on the filter where it mates to the air box, this helps it seal.
Re-install air filter and seat, I use a little bit of lock-tite on the seat bolts, as they vibrate out.
Remove the new filter and re-instal. If this doesn't solve problem I would put the old filter back in and try. If you now have water remove the old and try the new one again. Don't forget to push firmly as it may have not seated fully.
