It is really subtle but it is almost as if the screen is taking a deep breath. It dims slightly, pauses, then re-brightens. I've sent it in to apple for repair - ofcourse they could not reproduce my problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Here is my specs: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,2 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 4 GB Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz Boot ROM Version: MBP52.008E.B05 SMC Version (system): 1.42f4 Serial Number (system): W89141RN2QT Sudden Motion Sensor: State: Enabled

Yes it is possible for the inverter to be bad. I would watch on eBay for an inverter that has been tested as good or is brand new. They are usually under $10.00 and may be all that is needed. You can also remove the bezel and make sure that the connector from the computer to the inverter is in there solidly and didn't jostle loose. That is also an easy fix. If either of those do not fix it, let me know and I can help further.
have you tried holding Fn and pressing the button with thr brightening symbol. on mine its Fn and F5 for brighten and Fn and F4 for dim.. buttons may vary but this should work if not you may have a fault with the sreen sensor that shuts the screen down when you close the notebook
1...Turn on I Pod
2...Slide to unlock
4. ..Touch "Brightness"
5...Move the "Slider Bar button" to the Right to Brighten the Screen, Left to lower the Brightness, once you have the desired brightness on the screen you will then touch the "Settings" tag at the left corner of the Ipod to take you back to the "Settings" screen.
6.Push the button on the screen at the bottom of the player to return to the Main Screen and you are finished.

Your alternator may be going bad. Once the car is running, your battery has done its job and the alternator takes over. The alternator is responsible for firing the plugs, running your lights, your radio, your heater/AC, and anything else electrical, as well as keeping your battery charged. If the alternator is on its way out (or even has a less than good ground), you may experience some lights dimming, or even choppy radio signal. If the alternator is already gone, and your car is running off of the battery full time, you will also get the dimming you describe, and sooner or later the car will not even start. Take your car to an auto parts store (Advance, or Auto Zone, etc) and ask them to test your alternator. This is a free service.
The screen will automatically dim slightly when it is on battery power, this is to conserve battery power. For maximum brightness connect the power adapter into the laptop.
On the Thinkpad laptops you can adjust the brightness by pressing and holding down the blue Fn key plus the Home key to brighten or the End key to dim the screen.
Normally the way it works is if you plug in your AC Adapter to a laptop the computer screen will Brighten up since its no longer running off of battery and is actually charging . The reason why it should go dim is when you unplug the Ac adapter it goes dim to save battery life and last longer. If you are getting a really dim you can check and make sure that the Ac adapter jack on the adapter or motherboard isnt loose and it could be having contact to the unit and be loose inside and every small movement causes it not to charge / charge in and out and would cause this Dim effect. Again this depends on how old the computer is and I dont really think its the LCD or backlight going bad but you can try to mess with the screen brightness and If im not mistaken on that model it should be the FN key and the Right > and Left < Key for lower and higher brightness. Give that a try and check the adapter connection and you can pin point the issue . Hopefully it doesnt come worst to worst which could be a bad LCD going bad or damaged lcd internal cable. Hope my answer helped guide you closer to a solution.
