Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Progressive flashing/whiteout of LED screen

Yesterday I was working with my 350D XT when a jagged section of the upper left corner of the LED started flashing white . Over the course of the day, I looked up all the possible errors that the XT can generate, and could find nothing. In the interim, the jagged white section continued to grow, until this morning, the entire LED is whited out. I changed the lenses and the CF card, no change.
Any help would be appreciated, as I like this camera a lot.
Thanks for your time,
Fran

To reset factory defaults. Turn the dial to P (program). Turn on the camera. Hit the menu key. You will now see the extended menus. (if you don't turn to P you only get basic menu). Go to the last tab which is the second tools menu. Look down the menu and you'll see a "clear settings." Select this and you have two choices "clear all camera settings" and "clear all custom functions." Select "clear all camera settings." The "clear all custom functions" only applies if you've created custom functions which few people do. I hope this helps.

The camera could have problem with LCD as this sign is of the LCD getting old but if you also have problem when you see the image in your system means the problem is that of CCD sensor, please check what exactly is this, in either case my suggestions would be to take a call on service if CCD the Canon Company must have some free replacement policy but if LCD then could be paid one.

Do let us know if any further support is required.

Thanks

Canon 350D can only take picture it does not take video. On screen of course you can play the photos you have taken. But that is all.

When I try to take the pic the #5" comes on and flashes at the upper left hand corner. I tried turning the camera off and it still is flasing. I turned the camera off then opened the door to the CF card...

If you hear a click and then get Error #5 then either the flash is not popping up as it should or the two little switches under the flash are stuck. Gently help the flash up, then turn the camera off and on again to clear the error message. I found the hinge on my flash was corroded, probably due to getting sea water in it. Hope that helps.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT: The upper lcd screen info flickers, some of the icons on the screen work normaly, but other icons are lighter and flicker. Im speaking about the portion that displays battery...

It seems you have a false contact in the upper LCD screen, its flat ribbon cable or the connector at the main board.

It is necessary to open it and check it.

It is fairly easy to do it, but if the camera has a warranty, I do recommend you to make it valid.

If does not have warranty, then you may try in do it yourself if you have some experience and skills to fix electronic devices, or pay to have it done.

Best regards,

Sounds like loose part in Canon 350D / Rebel XT

This is nothing to worry about. The sound is made by the metal linkage inside the flash housing. Pop up the flash and touch the linkage with your fingers. You will see there is a little movement. This movement is enough to make the sound you hear.

Shadow across photo

Shadows, especially circular shadows, are pretty common with the pop-up flash. What you are seeing is actually the shadow cast by the end of the lens. This happens especially on wider angle shots.

The solution is to find a way to get the lens out of the way of the flash. You can get an external flash, like a 430ex or 580ex, which elevates the flash far above the lens. That is an expensive option so first you might try making a diffuser for your pop up flash, which softens the source of light and helps eliminate some shadows:
