Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

2 Answers

I left my laptop in the car on a 100 degree day in Louisiana for about 10 hours. It probably got to 130-140 degrees in the car. It won't boot up now. It doesn't have a 3.5" drive to try a startup disc on. Is there any hope that I will at least be able to recover the data? What about getting it to run again? Thanks in advance. Steven

Thanks guys! I tried rebooting a bunch of times to no avail. The only thing that comes up is the compaq flash screen and then a blinking cursor, no c: or anything at all. I tried copying a windows startup disc on to a flash drive but that wouldn't work either. I have another laptop I can swap the drive into if I don't get anything. I'll have to get another cable to be able to put it in one of my full size HD external cases I think. I'm getting flashes on the HD Led when I first restart it. The battery seems to be ok. Taking it out and running on only ac power doesn't help. A 3.5" drive would make things easier. If I get a CD-R can I make it into a startup disc? Thanks again!

Hi Steve,
You should be able to recover the data from the hard drive but as for the laptop itself being left in intense heat like that could have damaged the internal components.
Have you tried to boot the laptop up on AC power only? and is there any life in the laptop at all? for example, are there and LED indicator lights lit up or flashing?

    Hello again Steven,
It sounds like the computer is OK and the operating system just needs reinstalling, But first i would take out the system memory and reseat it, also check that the CPU fan is operational.
The fact that you say you still shows a splash screen indicates that the computer is still working.
Take your HDD (hard disk drive) out and connect it to another computer as a slave drive so you can get your data from it, reinsert back into the other computer and start the recovery process either by any recovery CD's you got with the laptop or the recovery partition if you have that option.

Just a though! have you tried to boot the laptop in safe mode? to do this just press F8 as the computer starts and see if you can access safe mode.

    Good luck

Hp pavilion dv5 1113us overheats and shuts down

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

My netbook got wet. Now the number buttons don't input one number they input three of the same number. My left mouse button doesn't click it is now working like the right mouse button. HELP???

I suspect that your net book has not dried out completely and has left a moisture trace on the membrane keyboard that is shorting to another trace. Heat the oven to 100 degrees (caution, do not go over 110 degrees), and place the net book in that 100 degree heat for a few hours. Hopefully any lingering moisture will evaporate and leave the key traces clean.

Goodman Model CPLE24-1C - Unit will run and cool but after running for an hour in 100 degree plus heat - Compressor will not restart the next time the thermostat calls for restart

First off, the unit shouldn't be running continuously for an hour, that's a sign of the unit being undersized for the house. So, therefor the house is probably heating up so quickly that the compressor doesn't have time to equal out pressures to restart again, especially in the 100 degrees.

The unit does not put out much heat, how hot should the air be

If it is a gas furnace or electric furnace you can expect 100-120 degree
air. A heat pump would probably put out 100 degree air or less. Sometimes lowering the fan speed can gain you almost 10 degrees

How do you win an inferno match?

Divas bannedInferno Match 1v1 only A temperature meter in the bottom-left starts at 100 degrees. All moves will raise the temperature slightly, based on damage. At 300 degrees, ringside will flare up for about 15 seconds, at which point you must drag your opponent to the ropes. If you fail (and you probably will if your opponent doesn't have red damage), the temperature will reset back to 200 (not 100) degrees

Over heat ?

Normal operating temperature on the bike should not go over 220 degrees F for very long, even in stop & go traffic. Riding down the highway on a hot day you might be 190 F. At start up there won't be a reading until the sensor gets over the minimum which is probably around 100 degrees. You should be able to see it rise after a minute or so of idling. You should hear your fan come on around 190-200 degrees. Your thermostat probably opens at 180, allowing coolant to flow through the radiator and if that does not cool the bike enough the fan comes on next.

IBM -t21 does not boot (all the time)

I am wondering about the environment in which you normally use this unit, which is heat sensitive, and
which, after it cools off a bit will work as you say after it is allowed to dissipate heat after use.

Make sure the space in which it used is not overheated and preferably air-conditioned. Try to maintain
room temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit or lower down to a minimum of 40 degrees.
