Question about Maytag Neptune MCG8000AW Gas Dryer

Open Question

Maytag MCG8000AWW gas "drying center" has a mind of its own

I have a Maytag MCG8000AWW gas "drying center" (the double-decker). It was installed in January 2005 and worked perfectly until August 2008. It could be coincidence...or the cause of the problem, but Tropical Storm Fay blew through and caused several electrical problems at that same time. We had power surges (booms) and outages lasting a few seconds (several in a row). We do not have a whole-house surge protector, so the dryer was "unprotected". Since that time, the dryer's "brain" seems to be haywire. The upper cabinet will run with the door open. It won't turn off (my husband installed a switch to turn power off to it). It starts up by itself. It reverts to the regular heat, wrinkle release, 18 minute cycle, no matter what I set it on, the control panel, for both upper and lower flash, and light up in sequence top to bottom (like a blinking strand of Christmas lights). For the past few months, the lower cabinet has worked "ok" if I turn off the power for several hours between loads. Now that the weather has turned hot and humid in Florida, it won't work at all. It does heat up, it does turn, but it doesn't know what cycle to run, and it won't turn off. HELP!

We think one or more circuit boards were fried during Fay. We can change them out ourselves, but they are expensive and we aren't sure how to diagnose which one has failed, or if that is the real problem.

Maytag neptune drying center has no power mcg8000aww

Could be a bad thermal fuse, a bad drum belt, a door switch a loose wire , one of the computer boards or the user interphase. Time to call a qualified technician. This machine is a complex machine to disassemble and diagnose and if reassembled wrong could prove to be dangerous to operate.

Im trying to gain access to the drying center by maytag, mdl mcg8000aww. i am having trouble getting in to check the components

This not a solution, just a statement that the only way in seems to be via the front with removing everything! There is a link in here to a Service manual that shows (poorly) different stages of a tear down. http://www.applianceaid.com/pdf/16022785.pdf I think my washer not spinning out the clothes properyly has cause what every it is to break. Lots of good info on how to test the ignitor, but how to get it out is another matter. Did you have to call a tech?

Maytag MCG8000AWW gas dryer no heat

The ignitor may be bad you can chek to see if there is 110volts when the dryer is allin by unplugging the wire to the ignitor and putting using a multimeter to chek for voltage at the wires. If there is power to the ignitor and the ignitor is not glowing up then the ignitor is probably bad replace the ignitor.
