I have a 72 shovelhead engine and I want to know what type of spark plugs can I use in it instead of harley davidson and also what would be the best oil to use in it instead of harley davidson also? About how many quarts would I put in it too? I think 4 but not sure. Thank you for your help!!

I have a 75 FLH and I use the Bosch Platinum WR8DP if you have the long plug if you have the short one it is W8AP, they are an exelent plug. As for the oil I use Rev-Tech grade 60 but you should stick with one kind of oil and for a FLH it is 4 qts.

If it were me, I would only use Harley ... However, you could use Champion or NGK, they make good plugs. The biggest problem I come across is the nipple that the spark cap snaps on to is removable on most aftermarket plugs and they always come loose and can cause problems. As for oil, Any good ranked 50 or 60w air cooled engine oil could be used. Harley's oil is rated up to 360 deg. I would look for an equivalent and stray from using synthetic oils.

I own a 71 FLH and live in Florida. NKG plugs seem to work the best, the run hotter than most plugs, which is beneficial with low compression engines - 74ci. I also run octane booster and a little Marvel Mystery Oil to help with the lack of lead in newer fuels. As far as oil is concerned I have yet to find a better oil then Spector. I usually run the 60w in the summer due to the warm florida days, and 50w in the winter.
Hopefully this will help.

If you've updated the original plug wires to a non-resistor type, you may need a resistor type plug instead of the stock plug.

1972 Yamaha RT2MX (360cc) stator assembly has been removed from the engine, and I need to know how to install it correctly, so the CDI will fire the spark plug at the correct point of crankshaft...

My manual for the rt2 360, shows points, perhaps someone has fitted a later model ignition. and flywheel
This may mean trial and error, see if you can see where the screws used to mount on the slots, or try it half way, then if it will start, use a auto timing light to see how close it is to firing on the F mark.
If it is not the original flywheel, check that when the piston is at the top( TDC), the timing mark points to the T mark

How do i rebuild a 1972 shovelhead harley primary unit

To rebuild the primary of '72 Shovelhead is far too much to type out here. Besides, you'll need some pictures to help you identify a few things. You know the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words". In this case, it's true. I'd suggest that you purchase a service manual. The best one that I've found is a Clymer's Manual, number M420 for Shovelhead 1966-1984. The factory manuals have been condensed so much that I think they rank second to this book. If you have a specific question, I can help there but to type out the entire process would be like me writing a book but without pictures.

Good Luck

I have a 72 Yamaha LT2 100 what gear oil should i use?

20w40 motorcycle engine oil, the same as a four stroke motorcycle would use,
Not car engine oil as this can cause the clutch to slip.

The bike is a 06 streetglide when you throttle the bike under load the oil pressure drops what would be the cause

I don't know too much about the oil pumps in the Twin Cam engines. I have never worked with one of them but I've got extensive experience with the older type pump used on the Shovelheads and Evolution engines.

A Harley engine employs a high volume low pressure oiling system. The old Shovelheads would actually show no oil pressure when idling hot with most gauges. The oil pressure switch would cut the light off at four pounds of oil pressure. A Harley engine will not hold a lot of oil pressure because the engine is built using roller bearings instead of shell bearings.

As long as the tappets are not rattling, you don't have a problem with oil pressure. If your oil pressure drops too low, the tappets are hydraulic and they will rattle like hell. There will be no doubt in your mind as to the problem.

Now, back to your question as to why the oil pressure on your bike drops when accelerating under a load, I have no idea.

Good Luck!

Whats the correct spark plug gap for a 1972 honda cl 100. And what is the recomended type of oil to use?

Correct spark plug gap is 0.6 -0.7mm and oil viscosity is variable like SAE 20/30w some thing like this and also depends on weather conditions.

I just picked up a 72 350 that has been sitting

Change the oil, gasoline, and spark plugs. The carburetors will probably need to be rebuilt so be prepared for some leakage (fire extinguisher handy!). And of course don't ride it far on those old tires. Good luck, great find.

try this for your plugs - might give a couple of options. maybe a later one will do?
Amsoil 20w-50? Depends where you are and what you can get. I think there is a rev-tech oil to suit your shovel, but can't remember the spec off hand. Havoline 20w-50? Oil debates seem to rage on forever on most H-D forums around the world. Have found for me the H-D stuff is about the same price as the rest, and just as good/bad as them.
As for quantity, I'm thinking it is about 31/2 to 4 quarts, as you said.
Check these guys out - maybe better answers than mine mate.
Hope this helps you.
