can you remove the bottom panel? if you can you will be able to see the belt and see if it is broken. if you are going to replace the belt i would take pictures so that you will have something to reference to when putting belt back on. because if you dont do it right the belt can poke a hole in the pump. if you need instructions on how to replace the belt let me know. but first you need to see if it is broken or not. some units have kick panels that you can take of by removeing 2 5/16 screws. some you have to take a putty knife and find the clips in the top to lift the lid and remove the whole front panel. also some if you run your hand at the bottom of the front panel and you feel clips on the left and right side you need to stick a putty knife under the clip and pull outwards on the panel to get it off. what type do you have?

It appears your drive belt/coupling has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

What is the position of the belt on a Maytag Legacy SAV205DAWW? On the right or left of the idler pulley?

Sounds like the pump pulley is not in the rotation. Since there's only 2 options if its not working on the way you have it now, it must be the other.

Maytag Washing Machine Model SAV205DAWW not agitating

The transmission is broken on the inside due to Maytag using plastic gears. Designed to break with age and overloading abuse.
It's a pain to replace and expensive, too. Average repair cost $300. and 2 hours + labor

Agitator does NOT spin along w/ drum during spin cycle

If this is the old style that uses a belt, it is not worth fixing. But the problem sounds like the wig-wam is not functioning properly. Most of the time it was a wire broken since it moves back and forth constantly.

Older Maytag Washing Machine - Top Loading "Heavy Duty" model

There is a screw near the base of the agitator. If it is missing replace it with a stainless steel screw. If this is a machine that is older than 25 years, you will have to replace the rubber ring on the agitator shaft.
