1. Graphics Card, put $200 or more in a GeForce GTX or GTS, Radeon 46xx or 48xx
2. Memory, put 2GB
3. If you can take the graphics card, your CPU can cope with the games. Remember that graphics card is more important than a CPU. e.g. a $250 graphics with a $150 CPU will be better than a $100 graphics and a $300 CPU.

What should i do ,whenever i open chess in my laptop a message is shown on the screen hardware accelaration is either disabled or not supported by your video card?

Hello there Sona..
This is because the game software is trying to access hardware accelaration which it looks like your laptop does not have.
To stop it asking all the time, go in to your Chess game settings and switch it off. There will be some kind of tick box that is making it look for the hardware.
If you can see Hardware Accelaration in the settings either un-tick it OR choose Software Accelaration.

Hope this helps.

PS: if you cant find it, just post back and I can go through it with you.

I thought playstations are all formated to play any made of equal or lesser p.s. value such as p.s.3. should play p.s.2. games

I believe you're asking about backwards compatibility. While I agree a PS3 should be able to play PS2 games, it's sadly not always the case. While they all can play PS1 games, not every PS3 can play PS2 games. PS2 compatibility depends on the model.

Backwards compatibility with PS2 games has slowly been phased out. The original PS3's had hardware emulation (quite literally there is a PS2 inside of your PS3). The later revisions had software emulation only (PS3 processor pretends to be the PS2 processor), and then none at all. No slim PS3 has backwards compatibility.

Hardware emulation:
20 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHB01
60 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHA01

Software emulation:
80 GB PS3 Fat/Original - Model CECHE01

In my personal experience, there's no real difference between software and hardware emulation in terms of actual game play. Software emulation has a few hang-ups on some older games, but overall it works pretty well. And it's infinitely better than not having any ability to play PS2 games at all.

Wikipedia - Comparison Table
Sony - check compatibility of games with PS3

Hope that helps!

S3 graphics twisterK

To make a long story short, the answer is no. Games that require 64mb VGA won't work with your hardware. drivers or software won't fix that only a hardware upgrade will do it. Plus s3 brand cards are notorious for bad driver support.

It all depends what kind of games you wish to play, you can probably play all the older games like Quake or Half-Life or older than 1997 just fine on your system with that video card. But you won't be able to play almost any of the newer 3d games out there. If you want to play new games like Battlefield 2 for example, you would at least need a new Nvidia or ATI brand video card on a brand new computer.

Problem playing a computer game I bought

what game is it? sometimes your graphics hardware can stop games from working if you haven't got the right hardware. or sometimes it can be as simple as not having the right version of direct x installed on your computer. Check the requirements for the game on the back of the disk case then check that you have all of the recommendations that it asks for e.g. graphics card, direct x, harddrive space, 3d accelaration etc..
