Gas guage not working on 2001 oldsmobile Aurora

I would guess you will have to replace the sending unit in the tank. A mechanic can check the sending unit with a meter and find out if the sending unit is faulty or the gauge on the dash.

It could have bad gas or plugged injectors in it. Try a bottle of water remover and octane booster in the tank to keep it running, the next time you fill it up put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. I would also change the fuel filter, as any water that it caught has probably started to rust it from the inside. The other thing to try would be to loosen the gas cap after it stalls. Does it **** in air? if so mice have made a nest on top of the gas tank and plugged up the tank vent. You will have to drop the tank to fix this.

Sounds like your senor in the gas tank it self is bad. Most cars have a float that read out how full the tank is and when it goes out it will stay stuck showing you on the dash that your tank is empty even though it is full.

Hi! You definitely have a problem on the fuel float thats why the check engine light is coming out. Please replace the fuel float and you'll be good. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

to test if its the float in the gas tank, use a rubber hamer and hits 2-3 times than check guage. If the level is still wrong its the guage.

does it make any sounds... what about warning lights on dash,... do all electrical components work ie. radio, guages etc. ?

The fuel sender in tank is faulty. It is in your gas tank. Common chevrolet problem.

The fuel sending unit is probably bad, and that is in the gas tank, which has to be dropped to get at.

The anti freeze goes into the radiator, if the fluid level is really really low, otherwise it goes into the coolant expansion tank which is a black plastic tank on the passenger side of the vehicle, and will say engine coolant on it. You just pop the cap and fill to the line. Leave some room for the liquid to expand when it gets hot.
