Question about Garden

1 Answer

I'm trying to start my Briggs pressure washer that has not run in a year. It wants to start after I prime it but will only run a few seconds. I can repeat this process over and over with the same results each time.

Hi...
Sound to me like your not getting fuel to the engine. There should be three controls on the pressure washer.
1. on/off kill switch
2. choak which should be on until your engine starts and warms up. Then move it mid-range
3. gas which when starting and when engine running should be opened all the way. This control should be right next to the choak.
I'd check and see if you've got your gas (no. 3) opened and supplying the engine with fuel...

thank u
hope this will solve ur problem...

If you left gas in it over the winter, particularly with the ethanol blends, the carb's probably all gunked up. You'll likely have to pull the carb, clean it and rebuild it.

You have to make sure you are pressing the trigger while you start the pressure washer. You should also make sure you are releasing the pressure at least every 30 seconds or the pressure will build in the pump and the engine can stall.

If it stalls with pressure in the pump and you don't relieve it by pressing the trigger, it will be very difficult to start. The pressure will slowly bleed off over time, which sounds like what you are seeing.

Engine wont stay running

It is a diaphram carb. Doe's the primer **** straight gas or does it have air bubbles in it? If it has bubbles in it then it is a leak in the fuel line.
If not then Unhook the intake fuel line and pump the bulb until all of the gas is out of it. Then pour the gas out of the tank and rinse it out with new gas. Pour in new gas and it should be ok.

Engine won't start

Try spray starting fluid into the air intake, that may get it going.

Briggs & Stratton 2500 Power Washer Loses Pressure Time to Time

If by "a few minutes" you mean 180 seconds, I really don't know what to say. But if you mean 5-10 seconds, you probably are experiencing air in the water line or normal engine warm-up behavior when the choke has been set to full lean too soon.
