Why won't my ice maker work

Hello Cynthia! Most likely the little "flap" inside the door of the dispenser is not closing all the way. My advice is to take all your ice out of the inside of the freezer. Clean and dry out that area as good as you can. Take your hand, and from the bottom, reach up and feel the flap that should close all the way when ice or water is dispensed. Take warm water, pour it from the top, you won't need much, and dry off the little flap as good as can be.
Now, press the ice button, and when you let go, you should hear a clunk or deep sounding slap, that is from the flap closing properly. Same goes for the water. However some manufacturers don't open the flap for water. From this point forward, assuming you heard the flap close, be sure it makes that same noise every single time you use the ice dispenser, or the water dispenser, and your problem should be solved.

The flap on the ice maker dispenser will not close.

Problem with these flaps are that they have plastic hinge which work great for sometime when they are new and have shiny inner surface but with use they develop minor scratches which cause resistance and hence partial closing. Either get the flap replaced or apply Vaseline jelly in the moving part of the hinge.

Hello, we are sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. We would suggest checking the ice chute to make sure that there is no ice lodged in the way of the flap. If the issue persist we would suggest having a certified technician out to look at the Refrigerator. If you would like further assistance you can send your name, phone number, address, model/serial of the appliance and the date on which you purchased the Refrigerator to Whirlpool_Reviews@Whirlpool.com. Mf12568aeb lights flashing and ice door flapping

You will have to call Maytag at 1-800-688-9900...Motherboard is bad. You can pull out the little plate at the bottom of the water/ice dispenser, then unscrew the two screw. Pull on the bottom and the panel should come out. Unplug the white connector on the left. This will stop the flapping of the ice dispenser flap.

Can't make ice cubes only crushed ice

Hi: There is a flap right where the ice dispenses. When you remove the bin you will see it when inverted. This flap has to open for the ice to be cubed. You might rember a slap as it swung open when it worked. There is a bar that runs from the flap to the back of the dispenser. Work it manually to see if it's jammed or broken. If not look at the back of the freezer and remove the metal panel if neccessary, to find the jam or defective part. I hope this helps, Jeff
