Question about Yamaha HTR-5740 Receiver

Can't seem to get any music from the turntable

The only time I get any sound with the turntable is if I turn it up to the top...and then there is considerable static (obviously). I have hooked my turntable up to my old system and it works, but not with this one...any ideas.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I have the ground terminal on my old reciever, but not this Yamaha one. Any others solutions

    Thanks Smarthome 2

My old receiver has a turntable input with a ground; however this Yamaha reciever does not have a dedicated turntable input; nor can I find any ground terminals other than for a FM/AM

Do you have the ground wire from the Turntable hooked up to the receivers ground terminal? it's a screw down silver nut and should be next to the Phono input. You are just lacking a ground from the turntable to the receiver. If you don't see a wire from the turntable, look around the chasis of the unit and you will fins it. Hope this helps

Why does Panasonic nn-sn651 usually work; but sometimes, turntable won't start ?

This is an inverter model so there is no diode or hv capacitor.
You must adt. the door latch switch assembly to make sure that the door hooks make contact with the switches. Common problem is that the assembly is bent and must be perpendicular to the door.If it is bent the switch will not make contact with the door hooks.
Place a dab of lithium grease on the tip of the door hooks to ease closing the door. This is the cause of the bent switch assembly!

Static sound from one channel after playing for a while--time it starts varies.

You don't say what a 1055 is and it is hard to know what you are asking with a lack of ID on the equipment at fault. Sounds like a source selection problem maybe a switch or if electronics a CD4066 IC.

I have a JVC turntable (AL-A155TN/AL-A155TNX). I haven't used it in about ten years. I hooked it up today. I played four records on it. Two were fine. The other two, however, started off fine

The only thing that might cause something like that is a build up of static. You can buy anti-static products for records and turntables. I tend to use an anti-static spray which also cleans the records.

as long as you have balanced your tonearm correctly, maybe its simply just a problem with your vinyl? could just be dust in the grooves or could be static build up, try cleaning your vinyl with an antistatic cloth to see if the sound improves.

How do I eliminate static when I am recording from the ION USB Turntable to my Apple?

Static can be elimited by having a piece of wire running to earth. Many turntables have an earth connection. If it's the records themselves that are causing the problem you can get an anti-static record cleaner. I will post the website for one that I use all the time.
You can also get an anti-static record matt for turntables.

Technics SL-L3 turntable no sound until warm up

either the cartridge is bad in the phonograph tone arm.  Or the pre-amp in the stereo is bad...remember that the turntable is the only accessory that uses the pre-amp input on the stereo.  I'm betting the pre-amp is bad.

Make sure the ground wire from the turntable (they all have one) is grounded to the amp, also the turntable has to be connected to the phono input on the amp. Turntable cant connect to cd or aux. Only phono. Also check to see if there is dust and dirt built up on the needle. clean if needed. most likely a grounding issue

Turntable power seems to be lightly surging

Sounds like a voltage regulator on the mothboard is going out. Avoid going in there, you really could fry yourself poking around in there. Check out these guys. They're top notch
