Question about Hayward SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES

1 Answer

I have a hayward pro series filter and pump. it works fine in normal mode. when i try to vacuum the strainer basket seems to be going nearly empty and return flow goes to nearly nothing. seems like the pump is sucking faster than the water is coming in. .. even without the vacuum attached.

Pressure gauge not working

Is the unit filtering? Is there pressure and flow at the discharge to the pool? Is there suction at the skimmer? Is there movement at the basket strainer? If you answered yes to all these questions then replace the gauge.

I hear air sounds in the top of my filter how do I get the air out?

It should eventually purge just by running. If it continues, you could have a suction leak in your piping. Check drain plugs in pump. Check strainer basket cover and gasket for leaks. Check any control valves for leaks, Check the multiport valves for leaks. If the basket was ever out of the pump, some item may be bouncing around inside also.

System runs fine until trying to vacuum

Pull the strainer basket out of the pump and reach into the intake of the pump at the bottom of the basin. If any debris gets into this area, the pump will not have great suction. The baskets and pipes etc will appear in good condition, but if the intake is plugged up, this could be your problem.

Will a 240 hayward sand filter with the SPX0710X32 valve, allow

If they are to much for the pump basket you can try filter by-pass. Another thing could be a tool called a leaf master that hooks on your garden hose and sweeps any and all light stuff from pool and collects in a bag big enough to hold it all in one sitting.

No suction from hayward variflow pro series sand filter

Try these tips. I am guessing that one of these is the reason that your pool filter is not working properly. If you try these suggestions and they don't work, let me know and I will trouble shoot with you again.
1. Check skimmer and pump strainer baskets for debris.
2. Check for restrictions in intake and discharge lines.
3. Check for air leak in intake line (indicated by bubbles returning to pool.
4. Backwash your filter.
5. Be sure Vari-Flo valve is set on “Filter” position.

Vacuum does not seem to be sucking out debris

If your filter is clean and you still don't have enough flow, check the pump impeller. If your pump basket is damaged, sometimes debris can get to the impeller and restrict flow. You will have a low filter pressure and vacuuming will not be strong at all.
