Question about Garmin StreetPilot 2610 GPS Receiver
On occasion, our 2610 appears to be suffering a seizure. The screen remains illuminated, but is unresponsive to commands. When this occurs, the unit changes into another mode from the normal, (where the North at the top left corner is straight up). I noted that once the unit responds to my touching the N icon in the upper left hand corner of the display, and the mode changes back to normal, (again where the N is straight up), the unit works properly. During the "seizure", I can hear the unit clicking and see the display jumping, as if it is trying to change. Sometimes the "seizure" lasts for several minutes. Case in point, yesterday I could not get the unit to function for over one half hour.
CHECK THIS OUT IF SCREEN CLEANING DOESN'T WORK.
Regarding the screen jitter, believe it or not, the infrared port is causing the issue. If you disable it through settings inside the unit your issues will go away. The sun basically destroys the infrared sensor and the unit "thinks" a button on the remote is getting clicked continuously.

Check for dirt between touch screen and unit housing. Little grains of dirt or sand will get traped there and the unit thinks something is pushing on the screen.
I use the small brush tha comes with an elecric razor. Hold the unit so that the edge you're brushing is up, so that any matter will fall out instead of further in.
