Question about Flotec 3.4 Hp Floodmate Submersible Sump Pump

1 Answer

Switching off too soon.

My Flotec Model FPPM3600D Non-submersible sump pump only runs for a few seconds, dropping the water level an inch or so, before switching off.

The float is on a vertical rod running thro' the switch, with adjustable stops to push the switch either ON or OFF.

ANY movement of the rod causes the switch to flip to the OFF position.

How can I replace the switch? I bought this pump in 2008, and it worked OK until early 2009.

You don't need to replace the switch just raise the upper stop up higher so the float can go higher before turning the pump on, it should have a rubber gromet on it slide it up the rail

Sump pump doesn't shut off

The floats could be binding on the pump or may have developed leaks so they don't float. Another possibility is that the switch mechanism is defective

Do I have to lengthen or shorten the length of the float cord on my sump pump if I want it to kick on sooner? Thanks

Shorten. By shortening the cord, the float will trip the switch at a lower maximum depth of water. The pump will run more often as a result, but the maximum water depth will be lower.

Hi,
You can't adjust the flost on those pumps... there is a magnetic switch that turns the pump on when the float gets to the top...

The only way to adjust the water level is to adjust the hieght of the whole pump...

Flotec website shows several submersible sump pumps, and pump types:
http://www.flotecpump.com/asp/productapplication.asp?AId=28

Click product, then click on 'parts and literature' to access manual
Here is a Flotec manual:
http://www.flotecpump.com/pdf/FP525%2811-1-06%29.PDF

Manual for this type of sump pump says:
Quote from manual: Automatic float switch is sealed and factory adjusted for
most home sumps. Turn-on water level is 10" - 12" above
pump base. Turn-off water level is 4" - 6".

The manual also says that running the pump when dry will ruin the seals.
This implies that the water level setting is set so the seals will not be damaged

You might be able to dig the sump deeper, but I don't know if that meets your objective.

If the pump is only pumping for a few seconds at a time it may be a problem with the control board. On two of mine, the 10mf 100v smd capacitor came loose. Resoldered and potted with hot melt glue. One of them is working with the other yet to be tested. Don't recall what the exact symptoms were, only that it wasn't continuously pumping water while submerged.
Unit is oil filled so should be dismantled in the upright position.

I have a Campbell and Hausfeld submersible pump, and the pump comes on every 8 minutes, pumps out for 5 minutes, then shuts off. Trying to find out if the float switch is going bad before buying a new pump.

Is the pump pumping out water when it comes on? If it is than it may be running as it is designed and you may want to look in to why you are getting so much water in the sump. Once the sump is filled to high enough level it will run the pump until the water level is at a low enough level. In other words the ON level switch is much higher than the OFF level switch.
