TV repair I have a horizontal rainbow lines on the top screen of my Sony KP-61V75 rear projection TV. Audio is fine, but no picture. Is worth fixing? Can you tell what the problem is? I think it might be the picture tubes. If so, where can I obtain the parts for it? Is it easily installed? Please advise.

Re: TV repair

It's probably a power problem--expect $200-$400 to get it fixed. This is not a do it yourself as there are extremely high voltages involved. A technician can come to your house for around $65 and diagnose the problem. Usually they can remove the board(s), fix them in the shop, then reinstall.

This may have a bad blue picture tube--these were known for this problem. If so, NOT worth repair.

2001 Sony KP-53V90 53 in. Rear Projection Television has a problem related only to the picture, the top and bottom of the screen are bowed into the middle, the video feed label and volume scale are also...

This is probably the notorious "light engine" problem that all of these Sonys of this design run into sooner or later. It is usually more expensive to repair that what the TV is worth, sadly. A Sony authorized repair center can confirm this.

Try this....

These sets have weak picture tubes, this may buy you some time. It is not worth changing the tubes in the set. The cost would be more then its worth. Try these adjustments until it completely dies. I have the same set.

Sony rear projector TV problem, KP-61v35

This is a problem with the vertical circuit. This can be as simple as poor connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I will supply additional details and instructions.
