Question about Craftsman 42 in. Deck 19.5hp Lawn Tractor

1 Answer

Slow Mow I have a MTD YardMachine, I recently replaced the drive belt on, I noticed the belt was a little sloppy around the pullys.I started to mow my lawn, but the mower would drive slow even with the speed setting set at its highest setting ( 7), it was just too slow. Also before all this,I noticed there was a little spot of oil or grease under the drive gear or transmission. Maybe the trans needs oil, and how do i put it in?, theres doesn't seem to be any where to add it to. Any help please Thank You, Joe

Try fixing this problem by making sure the belt is installed properly.. Whenever you install a drive belt it needs to be "seated". Make sure the belt is on correctly and the first time you try it out to see if the mower will move, start out in the highest gear. Hang on as it may ****, but this is the proper way to replace and seat a drive belt.

My 160 has started having trouble mowing at its normal speed in my yard. I have not changed the height I mow at, or the frequency at which I mow... What's happening?

i am assuming you are talking about a john deere. if it has a lot of hours or is very old the drive belt may need replaced if you are talking about speed. if you are talking about missing some grass the deck belt may need replaced.

What do i do i put gas in oil tank self propelled snapper?

If you did not try to mow the lawn, but shet the motor off before there was a loud KA BOOM.
If not, it is time to consider a new motor.

Otherwise just drain the crankcase like you would to change the oil.
If you have a friend that could help tilt the mower so almost all the gas is drained.
Now, put oil in the motor, 40 wt because there will still be a little gas left in the motor and when you mix gas and oil the gas is absorbed by the oil and the oil will thin out.
DO NOT! start it up and rev up the motor. You want to let any remaining gas to be taken up by the oil. Run around your lawn a few times at a moderate speed WITHOUT the blades engaged.
After this you can mow the lawn, at a moderate throttle setting, then drain the oil and fill it with the oil your owner's manual says to use.

Or just put around your yard for 30 - 40 minutes, then change the oil.

The above will only apply if you didn't mow until you had flames coming out of the exhaust and banging, knock ing noises were coming from the motor.

Mtd 42" riding mower rear drive belt keeps popping off pulley

Hi, check the idler pulley arm and return spring on that belt. Its most likely not pivoting freely allowing the belt to loosen when you operate the clutch, regards Phil.

Adjust the drive belts,

if you have the belt installed correctly, the idler pully is the only adjustment and thats automatic. i trust you have installed the correct belt.

Hi there i have an 18hp 42'cut power kraft deck probleme

Hi ! I have the same mower. It is an older machine and possibly the belt that drives the mower is worn. The belt drive is spring loaded and when you engage the mower by lowering the lever, aspring pulls the deck backwards against the blade. If the belt hasn't been replaced in a while, I would start with that first.
