Rover lawn mower is not working

Hi there,

I have inherited a Rover Thoroughbred two stroke lawn mower and would like to get it up and running. It hasn't been used in over six years and doesn't turn over and I'd like your trouble-shooting advice on how to resurrect this old beast.

Thanks in advance.

Make sure you get a spark, Clean the gas tank, maybe even go as far as cleaning the carb, make sure everything is like new and start it up.

I have a Rover Push lawn mower. Type 02031, Serial Number 0254990, Briggs and Stratton Quantam40 XTRA. My son has put two stroke petrol mix into this 4 stroke mower. Is this a problem?

Your mower is likely to throw out clouds of blue smoke, just as a 2 stroke engine does.

The spark plug may become oily and fouled, misfire and splutter/stall.

However, it's not a really serious problem and you're not going to cause any permanent damage. The easiest solution is to get a tube and syphon the 2 stroke mix out of the mower's fuel tank.

What oil to use for a yardworks gas mower 060-1648, 060-1649, 060-1658

Hi , There's two different types of mower oil, There's the oil for the sump (4 stroke mowers ONLY) Ask at the local lawn mower repair store for the oil type and the 2 stroke grade, it's just two stroke oil you add to the gas (2 stroke mowers ONLY) If you own a 2 stroke mower then yes you actually add the oil to the gas before you put it in the gas tank (25 to 1 ratio) but If you own a 4 stroke mower then NO you DON'T put the oil in the gas tank. There is (two) capes, 1 for the gas and the 2nd cap is there somewhere for the oil.... Have a look at the link below... CHEERS..

My Lawn mower seems to be produced by ALKO, but has the Briggs and Stratton emblem also. It is the 40b model and having just inherited it, I am trying to find out if I put just petrol in or whether I need...

Hi scottcoles5...
The easy way to find out if the motor is 2 or 4 cycle is to check to see if the engine has oil in the crankcase...if it does it is a 4 cycle and you will NOT have to mix oil with your gas. 2 cycle engines do NOT have an oil in the crancase and depend on the oil you mix with your gasoline.
You can also check the color of the gasoline in the tank, most 2 cycle oils contain a colorant to color the gas to let you know there is oil in the gas...

What is the oil to gasoline ratio for a 3.8hp mtd push mower?

Most mowers are four stroke machines and don't need oil put into the gasoline, it has a crankcase to support the lubrication. If you mower sounds like a chainsaw when it's running it's two stroke, if it sounds like most othe mowers it's a four stroke.

If by chance it is a two stroke (which I doubt) use 3oz of "two stroke engine oil" for each gallon of gas.

Mower stutters when i turn up to full throttle.

Hi if it is older than 2 years it will need a new diaphram and gasket under carby you will also need to clean out the fuel bowl in the top of the tank this should fix your problem.
