Acer Travelmate laptop by pressing ALT+F10 during the bootup to get to the eRecovery and restored the computer to factory default.

If your display is not centered try adjusting your screen resolution. Click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization. Open them to open the display properties and click the settings tab for screen resolution. Set your resolution up higher. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, thus the more fits on the screen. Normal resolution is about 1024x768.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. 2 Solutions Possible.
The connection between the LCD Screen to the motherboard is not connected well and is causing the issues you are having.
OR.
The screen itself needs to be replaced because it defective.

Backlight tube is going out there about $10-$20 fairly easy to install.

the wiring for the display goes through one of the hinges in the back .. if the wiring is pinched or damaged then that could cause your trouble .. there is usually a cover over the hinges that comes off .. you may be able to see the damage ..

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

• Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
• Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
• Picture flickering with dim display.
• Picture flickering on and off.

All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

If this happened suddenly, the backlight power supply (inverter)  has probably failed. It could be the backlight itself but they normally will dim or flicker before they die.
Try shining a light at an angle on the display with the computer turned on and look at it from an angle too. You may be able to see video very faintly; if you do, then it is as described above; a backlight problem, not the LCD display itself. 

If the backlight is coming on its not the inverter, check the ribbon cable for the screen itself, If its been opened and closed alot maybe be time to replace the screen. Check connections first, go from there.
