Question about Toshiba gigabeat S MP3 Player

1 Answer

Power low I was just wondering who to get in contact with to send my gigabeat back for repairs in queensland australia? the problem is that the power only lasts a little while before it is exausted. I beleive it might be a batterey problem, at the most it will play music for only about 2 hours, video might last 15 20 min when its going downhill with a good tailwind.

Re: power low

Try letting the charge complete use the AC adapter and not the USB cable. If the problem persists, buy a replacement battery from ebay and change it yourself, it'll be way cheaper.

Battery is dead

Identical problem - working only with power cord.
Wont power on battery or usb cable.

I actually opened player and check every single option.
(I am experienced electronic - tech.)
Result: battery is fully charged (768 mA/ 3.97V on bench)
Battery switch on bottom fully functional. (switching on/off 3.97V
comming from battery)
USB supply 5.0 V in perfect order.
There is no "EASY" fix for this problem.
It is either problem with firmware (low possibility)
or semiconductor on logic board (practically not fixable on DIY basis)

I bought my Gigabeat 60Gb for $ 70.00 used on Ebay so
I will live with this problem.

Toshiba gigabeat

gosh! where did you drop the gigabeat?? It must have been a hard fall, or in an awkward position, because I have dropped mine on cement so many times, but it has a tiny scratch on the back and nothing else.

I once had to send my gigabeat in to the company for repairs. They did a pretty good job, fixed it, and sent it back. I would recommend sending it in, because your problem seems out of your control.

Toshiba Gigabeat MES60V will not hold charge

I am trying to register an Adobe program on my computer and I can't because the program says my serial number is invalid. It seems like there are many people with this problem.

Gigabeat screan read contact manufacturer fo repair

You've either got the wrong battery or did something wrong when you installed it. You must make sure that the main power switch at the bottom is turned off.

Gigabeat frozen!

Hi Lorna, Yeah I found my Gigabeat froze a few different times when I was getting used to it. Solution: at the bottom of player there is a little battery on/off switch - its tiny and black but you would have needed to switch it on to first use it. Well turn it off here for 10 seconds and the on again. This removes all power from the hard drive and circuits which occassionally freeze. Hope that helps

Gigabeat froze -_-

sound like the hard drive connection came apart.(wire came off of the board or the drive) you will have to open it up to fix it.

Stuck Buttons after pen exploding.

This is a bit of late reply, who knows, someone else might come around looking for a solution one day.

It is most likely that ink dried up on a contact on the button concerned. I have never opened a Gigabeat myself, but a friend tells me he regularly opens his to clean the dust that goes on the screen.

I dont think it'd be easy to break, you just need to have the correct tools and be patient with it.

Lastly, I don't think it'd be worth the money to get it repaired, if it costs anything more than $40/ £20 and you're not willing to pay near or more than that. Attempt fixing it yourself.
