Why does cd rom not conned to my macbook?

I'm not sure about this, because I have an internal CD/DVD in my macbook. But this can be a driver issue. Do you have an Apple CD drive, or an universal USB CD drive? The last one could be very tricky, because the computer needs special drivers, so it can recognise the external drive.

No Audio on external device via VGA

Dear Paul,

VGA cables have no provision to carry audio signal - they only carry video signals.

In general, external monitors that also have speakers have RCA-type or miniplug-type audio inputs. In this case, you will need to use another audio cable to connect the phones output of your laptop to the input of your monitor, using a suitable cable.

If you provide us the model number of your laptop, as well as the one for your external monitor, we could try to find the info regarding the kind of audio cable needed to connect both.

Hope you may find this information useful!

Best regards,

Miguel L. Martins

I have a simpletech 120 GB external USB hard drive with NO power supply. Do you know what the power rating is (ac or dc, how many volts, amperage...) or where I can get a new power supply for it? -Thanks

12VDC, 1.5A external power adapter Well that is what this page says, it's not your 120GB drive but unsure if it's no the same model maybe. However all external HDD that need a power supply should be needing 12 volts, as they are just internal drives mounted in a shell and some simple circuitry to power and connect it.

Dont have the intalation disc

Here is the info from Sony's Website.

Drivers for External Optical Models Operating System: Windows Date: 04/18/2008 Do you need a Driver? (External models)

All Sony Optical external units are plug & play with Windows, no drivers are required for detection.

If you are having issues getting your external drive detected in Windows, please try the following:
The drive needs to be connected directly to USB 2.0 or I-link port (depending on model type) on your computer. Please note that the drive is not supported if connected to a dock or a hub.
Also please check the following if you are have trouble detecting:
  • The drive needs to be the only external device connected to the system. Please ensure there are no other USB devices connected.
  • Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Try a different USB cable
  • Try the drive on a second computer system if possible.
  • Ensure you have the latest BIOS and Motherboard updates from your PC manufacturer.
  • Ensure you have the latest Windows updates from Microsoft.
I hope that this helps in some way. Please let me know if you need more help after these steps and I will try looking eleswhere. asnowman

I need to run an HDD2159 external of its computer.

You cannot just connect the hard drive using a SATA to USB cable and connect it to the computer and expect to download data from this hard drive.
You need to connect the hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter which is then connected to a computer's USB port?
Leave the hard drive set as the master drive.

Sometimes the hard drive will connect and sometimes it won't.

There have been problems plaguing the LaCie external harddrives, for quite some time now.

The issue directly relates to the interface, inside the external enclosure. I don't know if you are acquainted with harddrive designs, or the interface that they plug into. If you are, disregard the following.

This is an average example of an IDE harddrive, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hard_drive-en.svg
Looking at this illustration, note where it points to -> IDE Connector. The illustration isn't very good, but those dots are metal pins.
The connection inside your external harddrive,
that connects to the harddrive itself, is called an Interface. This is a plug that has socket holes, to match those metal pins.

Now we go a little deeper. There are two types of harddrives. One is an IDE harddrive, the other type is a SATA harddrive. Your LaCie
will have a SATA harddrive inside.
Instead of the 40 pins that an IDE harddrive has, the interface for a SATA harddrive has 7.
(It has 15 pins for the power connection)

Now my solution:
Should you wish to save data that is on your LaCie external harddrive right now, I suggest you buy an external enclosure, (SATA), take out the hardrdive thats in your LaCie, and install it in the enclosure.

Since, the dimensions of the, LaCie design by Porsche 160GB external harddrive are:
Height -> 1.4 inches, (About 1-1/2 inches)
Width -> 4.4 inches, (About 4-1/2 inches)
Length -> 7.4 inches, (About 7-1/2 inches),
I'm willing to bet the harddrive inside is a desktop harddrive size. (3.5 inches across in width)
http://www.lacie.com/download/datasheet/porsche_hd_en.pdf

These are examples of 3.5 inch SATA external enclosures,
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=2780&name=3.5-eSATA-enclosure&Nav=|c:2778|&Sort=0&Recs=10
(A $25 or $35 unit will work just fine)

I DROP MY EXTERNAL WD 500GB AND NOW IT ONLY LITE UP, BUT MY PC CAN'T READ IT. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET MOST OF SCHOOL WORK, MUSIC AND MOVIES OUT OF IT?

take the hdd out of the external case & connect to another external case and try working it from there.
You can buy usb connection kit or a hdd dock from most puter part outlets or ebay for few $$

you most probably damaged a board inside you external case that might need soldering/repair/replace.

good luck, hope you get the info.

pls keep me advised if all works out

Hp officejet v40

Manuals for the V40 are available for download here. The information you are looking for is in the setup poster, part 6.

The wall connection connects to the rightmost connection (looking from the rear). If you have a phone it would plug into the leftmost jack. It may be necessary to remove a plug from the leftmost jack if you use an external phone.
