THIS ERROR WAS DISPLAYED. CANON SAID TO SEND IT TO THEM FOR REPAIR. TECH ASIST SAID IT WAS A SPONGE, I FOUND THE SPONGE, BY NO MEANS WAS IT FULL. T A SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE RESET BUT THEY COULD NOT TELL ME HOW. AN OTHER CALL TO CANON, SUPOSEDLY TALKING TO A TECH, HE SAID TO SEND IT TO THEM. THAT IT HAD A TANK UNDER THE SPONGE THAT HAD TO BE EMPTIED FROM THE BOTTOM, TURNED OFF UNPLUGED AND PLUGED BACK IN AND IT WOULD RESET IT SELF. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS VERY DIFICULT AND NEEDED SPECIAL TOOLS AND TO SEND IT IN TO CANON. I KNOW THERE IS A HIDDEN MENU, BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO ACCESS IT. THE ERROR CODE IS A FUNCTION OF USE TIME AND DOES NOT NECISARILY INDICATE THE TRUE CONDITION OF THE ABSORBER. MY ABSORBER WAS MOSTLY WHITE, NOT NEARLY FULL. IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO RESET THE MACHINE I WILL BE ETERNALY GREATFUL. THANK YOU, JERRY

If your tech minded, get a service manual from www.technitron.dsl.pipex.com - it's a little to technical to post here and the Canon Rep. might be wrong. The manual explains how to get the error code displayed on page 1-6. My printer is history, as it turned out to be mechanical failure.

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.
According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.
In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.
Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced) 2) Select TEST MODE. 3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS 4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0 5) Select OK 6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE
Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:
"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."
As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.
Open your printer. To protect hands from Ink wear thin latex (or similar) gloves. Locate the Waste Ink Pads on the inside of your printer. They are on the right hand side and are quite small. You can remove the pads and the holder with a gentle pull. Using a tissue, soak up as much ink as possible and clean the area around the waste ink area.
There is one more waste holder in the right back bottom of the printer.
A kind of sponge. There are few screws and plastic parts to be removed
and this sponge needs to be washed, dried and placed again. Be careful
and patient. This is no understatement. Take a photograph (even with your
cell phone) so you can trace back your steps. You also need to take care as you lift the
slide/carriage. Below this you find 5 little springs. Carefully replace the holder and the pads. Close printer. Whilst printer is disconnected from the mains power, press and hold the power button and reconnect to ac power. Release the power button. Press the power button again.
the waste ink absorber cannot be replaced mate. you have to buy new printer.the waste ink absorber is the sponge part where head cleans all its ink. its a common problem in cannon.

There is an absorbent sponge in the bottom of your waste ink container to help contain the waste ink your printer generates when it cleans the print head nozzles. That sponge is probably full and has triggered a "most informative" error message!
Check your user's manual about the procedure for changing the absorber and where to buy new ones.
The waste ink absorber is almost full. Press [OK] to continue but early replacement recommended. <See manual> WASTE INK NEAR FULL The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber to hold the ink used during print head cleaning, for example. This error message indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the OK button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative. (You will need to replace a particular part of the printer.) Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be performed until the Waste ink tank is replaced.
hi i am a certiffied Canon repair tech for this model. this is true this will reset the error but doing so without replacing the waste asorber pad in the bottom of the machine will cause your machine to backup waste ink into the the printing area of the machine and will start smuging ink on the page. the waste absorber is fairly cheap but the labor varies from shop to shop. there are independent Canon repair shops throughout the world. you can call 1-800-ok- canon or look on the canon website. hope this help to clairify.
