    Hi,

May I ask, are you sure that you do have a sound card installed in your computer. If you do, you may have to install the correct driver for your sound card. Please answer and I will try and give you a solution. Thanks.

Some media player may work for other operations and some won't. If that's the case with yours, install another type of media player so that your PC will work on either CDs boot into your player. Try to install winMedia Player, or VLC and another option is your Jet Audio or any other type of.

Sound device problem

if you go to the start menu and right click my computer on the list at the bottom it says properties click thAt a window will open called system properties on the tab titled hardware at the top click that a window for the hardware will open and you are looking for device manager in the device manager you can update and mess with whatever you have installed on your computer. now look for sound video and game controllers on the left is a plus arrow click the + symbol and it will expand your devices look for anything titled with the words (audio driver) this should give you make and model information of your sound card and drivers from here you can use windows (by double clicking your selection) to troubleshoot and update that driver or what i would reccomend is write that information down and then google search the description for your sound card and driver i think a generic driver is called legacy audio driver or something like that. anyways hope this fix ya
best regards,
ryan

Sound Driver

Your sound device is either damaged or has no driver installed. Look in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager for yellow marks.
You'll find the driver at the Compaq site.
I can't help you further without a model number.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might...

If you are able to hear sound while starting PC issue is not with sound card. that is installed and working properly. If you are clicking on any file that is not playing then window media player is not supporting that file. If you are directly opening window media player from start>>Program>>access>>>>window player and it is giving error. It mean that your player is corrupted. You can upgrade that with higher version of player by going this link. www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player.aspx
