    Hello,

I connected a ONKYO Tx-SR605 Receiver to a Mitsubishi 73” DLP TV. My connections were as follows.

My DirecTV HD box and a Sony Blu-Ray were connected to the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI 1 & 2 inputs. The ONKYO receiver HDMI output was then connected to the Mitsubishi TV HDMI input #1. I did have the ONKYO receiver HDMI output to the TV turned on.

I also have an Xbox connected by way of the Mitsubishi TV HDMI #2 input, and a Optical Digital cable connected for the Xbox to the ONKYO receiver Optical input #1. This connection was necessary because the ONKYO receiver only has two HDMI inputs.

This connection worked for about 40 days. Any time we wanted to watch TV, we just needed to be on the TV’s input #1, then switch to the TV’s input #2 when we wanted to play the Xbox. And like I said, this worked great for 40 days.

One day when we had the TV’s set to input #2 because we were playing the Xbox. Then we wanted to watch a movie so we tries to switch back to the TV’s input #1 to get the signal from the ONKYO receiver the was connected to the TV’s HDMI input #1.

What had happened id the TV for some reason lost the setup for the ONKYO receiver. It was like it was never their. I tried to do any thing the book had on setting up the connection but The only way I got it to work was to hit the reset button in the front of the TV. After I got it to work again and then I would turn the TV and then back on, or if I were to change the TV’s HDMI input #2 to play the Xbox, and then tried to switch back to the TV’s HDMI #1 it would be lost again.

Also when I was trouble shooting this issue, I was able to get the TV working with the ONKYO receiver by unplugging the HDMI cable, and then plugging it back into a different HDMI input on the TV. But I would still have the same trouble and the connection would be lost.

I got the TV to work, but what I had to do is do a factory reset on the TV the connect everything directly to the TV’s HDMI inputs, and then connect the ONKYO receiver by way of a Coax cable to the Digit input of the ONKYO receiver.

How can I get it to work again using the ONKYO receiver as the hub instead of the TV? Connected the way I have it now, I’m not taking advantage of the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI inputs as well as it’s 7.1 capabilities.

I think I may have either turned something on or off in either the TV or the receiver, and it is creating the problem. Besides video and sound, it seems they are creating systems so HDMI connected components can control each other by way of the HDMI connection.

Could something like this be causing the problem? I did try different HDMI cables but have the same issue.

    Thanks,

    Robert…

If the unit will not leave standby I would remove all power, disconnect *all* connections at the back, reconnect to a power source and try powering on. This will eliminate any connection causing the Onkyo to stay in standby due to a short. If it still will not enter power-on mode, you may want to look at the power source (is it properly grounded?), but beyond that the unit probably needs to go back.

There is a firmware update for the TX-SR605 which corrects HDMI issues on the DSP board. It will need to be brought to an authorized ONKYO service center, I don't think you are allowed the software to perform the update yourself (it is an easy process though). From the sounds of your problem, this update would fix this easily. I'm pretty sure ONKYO pays the service center for the update. Good luck!

I just ran into the same problem with my Onkyo SR605. I seemed to 'fix' it by doing a receiver reset to put it back to factory settings. See Troubleshooting pg 94 on upper left. Turn reciever on, I had to set it to an non-functioning channel, then help down the VCR/DRV button and then pressed the standby/on button. Clear appeared on the reciever display. The always-in-standby mode is gone now. (of course, when it might re appear is anyones quess. I noted on webpage that the 605 implemented some integration with other components via HDMI. Am wondering, since my DVD uses HDMI as does my connection to the TV and the PC as well. Is it HDMI bug?

Set-up problem with sound and speakers

I sent this TX-SR605 system to an authorized dealer for repair. It seems like it is a very simply problem - the internal set-up mic jacket closed circuit, so the system think the set-up mic is always plugged in (even when physically unplugged it, the system still detect plugged in). And it enters the automatic speaker setup and never quit.

Now I have the receiver back home and tested it. Everything worked O.K. now. It is a pity that this new-bought equipment (just one month) need repair for just a small action of plug in a mic ( I swear I plugged it in very tenderly). It is shame for such a unreliable performance happened on brand name like ONKYO. How can you be confident for an equipment failure in one month.
