TomTom One 2nd edition - Please help!

I bought a TT1 2nd ed for my parents after they moved to a new town. It is their own source of direction - invaluable. I wanted to update the TT1 to the latest software, or whatever it was updatable to, basically to bring it up to date. What a mistake.. My issue now: It doesn't work anymore. It keeps showing an animation showing the sd card coming out of its slot and ending up with a red cross over it. I tried everything: 1. Restoring to an earlier backup: it doesn't work. The progress bar doesn't move and at some point, I get an error message: "An error ocured. Australia.mid" (I have the Australian map loaded). 2. Tried re-setting it. From when it's in sleep mode, when it's on, for 15 sec, for 30 sec. Nothing. When it's on and I press the reset button, the screen goes blank, but it doesn't restart after, say, 15 sec of holding the reset button down. And when I restart the unit, I get that yellow line loading on the bottom of the screen, up to about 3/4 full. Then it stops and gives me that animation again, with the red cross on the sd card...
There was suggested in another similar help topic to re-install the TomTom home software on the Unit - not on the computer. I don't have a TT Home software on the unit, nor do I have the choice of installing it, form either CD or from my computer, or from any source. The only TT Home software that I can see is the one needed on the computer itself. I re-downloaded it, run it again - same result.
This is what is contained in the TT unit sd card: * APPLICATION: Tom Tom Application for ONe XL, ONE, ONE New Edition and ONE Third Edition - 10Mb * MAPS: Australia - 93.4Mb * VOICES: Only 4 voices that I kept - approx 3Mb * SATELLITE IMAGERY: Australia - 3.7Mb
The top info says that there's 4.9Mb free on the card.
That's all I can tell you a the moment... I can get rid of that yellow line loading only past 3/4, and that red cross on the SD card. Please help!

Sorry, I meant to write this in the past paragraph of my post: I CANNOT get rid of that yellow line...etc

    Two things:

    1. I use an Apple Mac with the latest operating system OS10.5. aka Leopard installed. Maybe this is a reason why I can't restore to my earlier backup and I have all these problems, i.e. incompatibility?...
    2. Maybe the SD car is corrupted. On the TomTom website there is an information about my problem:

However, I have tried downloading the latest TomTom Home software, with similar negative results. It says that there are no other updates available, since all the latest updates seem to be installed already, something that happened when I updated the TT1 (and after which I had my problems with it).
Question: If the SD card might be corrupted, could I do the following:
    (a) buy another SD card, especially with more memory. In this case, any generic SD card would do, or would it have to be formatted in a special way first? Or:
    (b) delete the contents of my current SD card by trashing its contents. The SD card appears as a HD mounted on my desktop. I could just drag everything it contains to the trash, and then click in TTHome the "Install" button, which would re-install - hopefully -all the same software to the SD card.

I ended up sending the unit for repair after talking with a person from the service department that represents TomTom in Australia. We went through a variety of solutions on the phone - none worked - and the unit might have to be re-flashed.

when I tried to up load updated maps I now have maps of GUAM. I live in the US! No access to the US maps available on the Tom Tom. Although my PC says the maps are already installed on the Tom Tom. I will be very discouraged if this is the quality of this GPS. I wasn't sure I wanted one to begin with, but Christmas was coming and my husband wanted to give me a gift "I" could use.

    got any ideas/

I experienced the exactly same problem/symptoms with the backup restore function today. After installing the new firmware application on my TomTom Go 510, I did a new backup of my TomTom using the Home Application,  I then attempted to "restore" that backup to two spare SD cards.  The dialog box indicated "restoring," but nothing was being restored. My work-around, which worked great, was to locate the Backup Storage folder on my hard drive, and Drag & Drop its contents onto the spare SD cards (after erasing them).
I'm running the TomTom Home application (v 1.5.106) on an Intel iMac, OSX 10.4.10.

That happens because de "application download" ( probably navcore 7.900 ) is not compatible with your map version.
You must reinstall the old navcore ( propably

I had exact same issue today! I had to put the SD card into a card reader and in another USB port on my PC and then I formatted the SD card and then copied a previous TomTom backup onto the card. Worked fine after that. For some reason when it was in the TomTom it kept reporting there was only a few mb left when there was at least 100mb left.
The catch is to backup!

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

You can purhcase the new TomTom Rider 2 map update for $79 from TomTom.
If you have your receipt as proof of purhcase, you maybe able to take it back to the retail store you purhcased it from and see if they can assit you with TomTom.
Contact TomTom customer support directly to see if they can assist you also.

It fixed mine fairly easily.

TT Home does not recognise connection

You definitely need software and maps on an SD card. The TOMTOM will not work without a card inserted. The card will contain MAPS , Map authorisation codes ( to show they are genuine TOMTOM maps bought and paid for ) , POI ( points of interest ), GPS fix data , voices ( for spoken navigation ) etc etc etc. ....................
PLEASE NOTE , TRYING A CARD FROM ANOTHER TOMTOM is very unlikely to work. Each card has an authorisation code that is generated via an algorithm inside each TOMTOM and is device specific.
However , trying a card from another tomtom might produce a diferrent result but still not work , at least this might prove that the tomtom is working OK before you rush out and buy a tomtom card.

Tomtom 1 (new edition) map of europe

I think you'll find that you can download it from tomtom home, with full technical help online & on the phone.

I dont advise COPYING it from a friend as you will get a symbol appear on the screen with a tomtom SD card with a large red cross through it, indicating that the tomtom knows its not a genuine copy.
