Trash it unless you intend buying another one and same model.
You can salvage some parts, the RAM modules and the hard disk.
Put the hard disk into a USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external hard drive.

Does my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop have a fuse?

No. Power would be prevented by a bad outlet, power strip not on, faulty or mis-connected power cord, bad connection between the tip and inlet of the power cord, a bad power inlet, or a faulty motherboard. Independently testing each of these until you narrow it down is really the best/only way to figure out the problem.

Very bad reputated problem on ACER laptops... The southbridge chip is failing or badly welded on the motherboard.. Need to replace the motherboard (or to find a NASA's technician being OK for reparing the CMS welding...)

Media test failed, check cables

Sounds to me like there is bad sectors on the hard drive. Replace the hard drive with a known working one. If you still get that error message then at that point try different memory in the laptop.

If it still doesn't go away then its a motherboard issue at that point.

Acer 5100 motherboard problem.

To list all of the specifications for your Aspire here would take too much space.
You can download the manual directly from Acer for your 5100 series notebook. The manual will provide you all of its specifications. (Click on the link to open Acer's web site);
http://us.acer.com/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24.current.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&sp=page15e&ctx2.c2att1=25&miu10ekcond13.attN2B2F2EEF=3750&CountryISOCtxParam=US&ctx1g.c2att92=453&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=2054404012
Once the site opends click, Driver Download located at the left side.
Under, Select Product Family click Notebook. (Not Netbook)
In the next window click, Aspire.
In the third window scroll down & click on, Aspire 5100.
Click the Document button. Lastly, click on the white arror to download the manual. File named: AS5110_5100_3100-ENG-OLM_0616.zip

My acer aspire 5100 hanga after desktop and has a long continuous beep, please help??

Sounds like a bad key on your keypad. Try taping all keys, one at a time, to see if the beep goes away. If this fails to resolve the issue then it is probably a bad motherboard that will need repair or replacement.

My Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop wont detect the hard drive

If it works on another computer then either the ide cable in the acer is bad/loose at either end or the ide controller on the motherboard is bad. I would try a known good ide cable first as if this is the problem it is fixable alot cheaper than a motherboard. Hope this helps.

Acer notebook usb not recognized

Sounds like a hardware issue. I would guess that there is a bad connection between the usb's and the motherboard. If you are comfortable dismanteling the laptop and re-soldering the usb's than give that a try, but I would recomend you give it to a pro.
Here is a link that explains the process. http://www.insidemylaptop.com/taking-apart-acer-aspire-5100-laptop/

Acer aspire 5100 bios rattery how to remove and replace

you will have to shut down the unit and unplug the power cord from the pc:
(1) check and see if all of the connections are secure one of the ribbons from the board may have came loose or it may be loose on the harddrive its self
(2) check the cables and ribbons also to make sure that they are all in good working condition no cuts or broken or kinked wires
(3) power back up and see if you can hear the harddrive is spinning up. if not mayby the harddrive is bad

please try these things first ok and please keep me informed of how this goes ok best regards mike
