You have been infected by a virus which has changed the registry value. You need to be cautious and follow whatever instructions I'm giving below :-
go to start button click on run and type regedit and then open
navigate to Hykey_classes_root
I've got a better solution for you just go to this web page and download all those registry fixes to your pc in the table.
Run those fixes your registry will be automatically repaired which i was going to ask you to do manually.
If somehow you are using winxp then also I'm here for your help if i can't get automated recovery I will tell you manual fix. Kindly don't forget to vote.

I'll tell you exactly what this virus does. It converts the data in your registry for few particular keys to wordpad. These fixes will work fine only you have run the fix for exe files because exe files are the key to every software. Kindly tell me are your what all applications working and what all not working.

Go to the link below and scroll down to line 12 (left column) and click on "EXE (lnk and regfile) Fix for Windows XP" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it or right click it and choose "merge" and answer yes to the import prompt.
If you can't run the file do the following:
Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.exe and press Enter. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that reg file fix, hilite it and click Open.
Note: If you can't access the Internet with the problem computer use another computer to download the reg file fix onto a CD, thumb drive, or floppy and transfer the file to the problem computer.
Kindly provide me with feed backs so i can help you. I don't know wether you are able to open registry or not which operating system you are using.
Anyways here is the manual proceedure as i was telling earlier
click start run enter. Type regedit.exe and press enter
Once the registry window opens up navigate to navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe
dbl click on default and type 'exefile' and press ok
dbl click on content type and type 'application/x-msdownload' inthe box and press ok
Note ' ' I'm using for the content in that box don't type ' '.
Now try to open any exe file and tell me what happens so i can tell you manual fix for other file types also.

have you tried that manual registry editing proceedure for exe. Just tell me what was written over there before you amended it to exefile. If can't remember just go to any of the other extn eg .dat double click the content type and tell me the default value over there. I think I've to create a batch file for you which will change your keys for that i need to know the string which is by default changed in your pc. So i can find the root key and delete it.

If you are fedup with these then kindly restart your pc and continuously press F8
Go to last good known system and boot through that. Your pc will be ok.

It seems from your present situation that virus has taken over your boot sector also. It has corrupted all your exe and other office files. Source code of virus exist even in your explorer.exe. The only solution to this at present is either you configure your pc to last good known configuration or you repair it with the help of your vista CD. I've told you the method how to go for last good know configuration. Just put the CD1 into your drive and restart/restoration your pc and follow the instructions for repair. After repair/restoration don't even try to click on other partitions or run any cd before you install free avg antivir version 8.5. You can download it for free. from the link below

How do I get ride of all WordPad files

WordPad comes as part of Windows, it doesn't really have any files (documents) you can however associate file types to it. .txt and .rft If you want these types of files to open in say word. Right click any .txt file and any .rft file, select Open With, "Choose Default Program", Select Word and make sure "Always use the selected program" is check" and those file types will now always open in Word. If this is not what your looking for please comment back and elaborate on your issue you are having.

When printing, sentences over lap so the document is unreadable. Also it may only print the first line of a document.

I've seen word documents do this sometimes and fixing it has worked differently each time.

1) Open the document and press CTRL + A (select all) on the keyboard and then CTRL + C (copy), then start a new document and press CTRL + V (paste). Save the new document as something different and try printing again.

2) Open the document again and select all and copy again, but this time open wordpad (a different program to Microsoft Word) by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Wordpad, and paste the text into wordpad. This may change some of the formatting. Now, select all again, and copy, and start a new word document and paste.

Copying the text out of word and back in seems to work more often. Sometimes the best program to copy out to is notepad, but you lose pretty much all of the formatting when you copy back into word.

3) If this doesn't work, you could try to update your printer drivers, and if that doesn't work, as a last resort, you can delete the printer and create it again via the Control Panel > Printers.

I have internet connection and also shown G but web browser not open website shown web browser time out? why tell me what problem

1) Try a system restore.
Go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore
Follow prompts to reset computer to a time when it was working correctly in the past.
All downloaded programs will be lost, but documents and photos should not be affected.
Suggest you back up anyway.

2) Try a work-around on your computer.
Go to Start > all programs > accessories > wordpad.
Open wordpad > click Help > select Help topics > box opens
In upper left corner of box is yellow question mark > click question mark > select 'jump to URL'
URL box opens
Fill in URL with the web address shown below
Download Firefox browser and see if it will work correctly
Or download Chrome browser, etc

My minibook only has wordpad can I replace it with MSword?

Ok, well you do not need to replace it as such, one usually simply installs Microsoft Office, and this will install Word, & others too, Or, just MS Word, and Associate, the Program with the Document files, so that documents will automatically open suitable documents.

Have multiple users but only some have microsoft

All the users on your system will have the access to WordPad. Wordpad comes with operating system & all can access

To open MS WordPad, click "Start," "All Programs" and then "Accessories." Next, click on the "WordPad" icon.

To put it on desktop, you can right click the "WordPad" icon and click on "Send To" -> "Desktop"

If other uses doesnt find WordPad on the above location. You can still open it going to "Start"-> "Run" on the space type "wordpad" and click ok and it will open up wordpad.

Hope this helps

Scanner shows number but won't scan to computer

If you're sure that the barcode is correct then ignore the following.

Otherwise, download a free barcode font and install.

1. Open up wordpad .. and type any number say "12345", and then convert it by choosing the barcode font.
2. Print out the barcode (usually at least 26pt)
3. Leave wordpad as the active window and scan the barcode
4. "12345" should be inserted into the wordpad document.

Now you know that it works.

This should work on the default setting of most scanners.
