Question about HP Compaq Presario V5000T Notebook

3 Answers

Backlight Life I have a compaq Presario v5000 model and I have it on a lot. I have it open often for hours at a time. I already checked the LCD life, they last for 60,000 hours, but will having the laptop open all the time burn out the backlight? I really don't want a broken laptop, I'm not exactly tech-savvy.

If the laptop is on all the time and the display is never on standby, then the backlight CCFL lamp life will be reduced.
If the CCFL lamp is worn out, this can be replaced without replacing the whole LCD screen.

Yes by leaving the laptop on all the time you could burn out the laptops back light. Set your power settings to turn monitor off after so many minutes of non use to save this. Further more I would recommend a chill pad under the laptop to help keep the CPU from getting to hot.

Hi: Chances are it will become obsolete, or something else will go gad before the screen will. Every time you see an lCD tv in a restaraunt or bar it is on 18 to 24 hrs a day. Same principal as your laptop. hope this helps, Jeff.

The monitor screen on your laptop is an LCD screen.

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

LCD screens are a composite of layers. The layers are held together by a metal frame, much like a picture frame.
The Backlight is usually located on one side, accessed after removing one side of the metal frame.

As stated, a Backlight is a very small type of Fluorescent lamp, (Tube)
Very fragile, easily breakable, and not usually approached by one who has very little, or no experience in replacing.
More common the entire LCD screen is replaced, which includes the Backlight already installed.

A laptop also needs an Inverter to provide power, both for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 percent of the time the fault is the Inverter.
I repeat, 90 percent of the time the fault is a bad Inverter.

An Inverter is cheaper than an LCD screen, and MUCH easier to replace than a Backlight.

Allow me to show you replacing an Inverter on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop.
Granted, it isn't an HP Compaq Presario V6500 series, but the principles still apply the same,

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/remove-replace-lcd-screen-inverter-hp-pavilion-dv6000-laptop/

I can also provide a free link, to the Service Manual for an HP Compaq Presario V6500 laptop, direct from HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3369429&

In the list click on;
Compaq Presario V6500, V6600, and V6700 Notebook PCs-Maintenance and Service Guide

This is a PDF file.
Allow up to 30 seconds to see the first page, and an additional time may be needed to fully download.

In the Bookmarks menu on the left click on the + sign next to;
1) Removal and replacement procedures
2) Component and replacement procedures
3) Display assembly

And/or go directly to Page 61 to view the Inverter location.

One example of an Inverter for an HP Compaq Presario V6500,

Granted this is not what you asked for.
My premise is to teach, and hopefully save people money.

If you have additional questions please state in a Comment.

My screen stays black when you turn it on. model HSTNN-C17C which is located under the battery. Presario V5000

This isn't a desktop PC by the way. Do any of the lights come on? If not, try to run the laptop from the AC power. If the lights come on but no display, then your backlight or inverter on the LCD panel for your V5000 might be bad.

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 and am on it right now but the screen is black and I am using it by pluging it in to a diffrent screen

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, this is the most likely case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My compaq presario v5000 does not power on?

Hello,

Please try to plug the power cord into the source and used DC power source. Let the laptop charge for 5 - 10 minutes then after the given time please turn on the laptop. If it does not work extend the time from5 -10 to 15 - 30 minutes then repeat the stpes again. If it does not turn on then please try to check if the battery is charging. Then if all the procedure you have already perform and still no positive result then i advice you to please find a computer technician in your please and let that person fix the problem for you.

Lid switch location??????????

HP DV 5000 LID switch location is here:
65cfd24.jpg

If You want test lid switch, just connect A+B together for a monent!
If the monitor flashes on...? Lid switch is faulty.
It is too dificult to change the lid switch, so the easiest way is connect these pins together forever. :))

Dont forget to turn off your notebook... he wont sleep anymore ;))
