Question about Canon PowerShot A75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

USB device not recognized

When I connect my Canon A75 camera to the computer, it give me a message saying "USB device not recognized" It used to work fine but one day this started... I've tried everything: uninstalling and re-installing, unplugging all the power source of the computer and unplugging all the usb's for 30 minutes and rebooting the computer... Other USB devices seem to work fine. This camera didn't work on 3 different computers. What do i do?

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-do-i-download-photos-or-pictures.html

You've already done what would have been recommended, uninstalling and reinstalling the software with its drivers. One thing that you failed to mention is your operating system. If Vista, Canon did not update drivers for the A75 under Vista, thus it will never work under Vista.

Am seriously recommending that you consider a card reader instead to download your photos. They're very inexpensive, easy to use (copy/paste the files), and you're much less likely to run into this type of headache.

Speaking of drivers, if you have an OS other than Vista, have you installed the latest drivers for that system? If not sure, go to Canon's A75 support page at the following link, click on and select your particular OS, and then download and install your driver and try it out. If this doesn't work, it's definitely time to shell out 10 bucks and buy a card reader.

Forgot to mention, you have to click on the "Drivers & Downloads" tab first on the above webpage.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Canon hv30 is't being recognized on my vista computer

You may have used a different USB port on the computer. Try a different one.
Generally, any USB port would work, except that some devices create a "Virtual USB" connection that is configured with a specific USB port.

Let us know if this helped...
