Cannot Reformat Toshiba Satellite P200 using the Recovery P200

No Sound has me using the Toshiba Recovery Discs. After the 1st disc does it's bit right at the end of it the error message appears
Preinst6.swm
Type: swm File
Size: 644 meg
Date modified: 6/27/2007 8:06pm

Three options are offered

Try Again - Skip - Cancel.

I have tried try again x 2
I have skip x 2 with no result.

When I select option (Skip) I am directed to install Recovery Disc 2.

After this installs itself I am shown the Error Message

Boot MGR is Missing and instructed to CTRL+ALT+DEL to Restart.

Once this is done
Erroe: 10-fc06-0002
Recovery Error
Please press (OK) to turn off computer.

Any assistance with this drama would be greatly appreciated.
This machine uses Vista Home Premium with 3G of Ram and 320G HD
I work on a ship and this is my own personal machine.

Best Regards and many thanks in advance for any assistance

Try, at logo screen, rapidly typeing f11 untill you hear it beeping at you choose (i think ist "repair pc" or simular to this option), this should be the first option given, Vista has a built in system recovery, if you didnt delete the disk partition, if its not f11 its f10 may even be alt+f11 or f10

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

The fact that you have an error of missing file whit the restore DVD indicate that the problem could be hardware. Especially if you already did a restore whit the same DVD.

I would suggest that you have a faulty memory issue (RAM), you can run a memory diagnostic whit memtest86 http://www.memtest86.com/ download the bootable cd and run it if you see RED readings your memory is defective if not let it run for a couple of loops to make sure.
I'm pretty shure you will see red results, if so take it to your local computer specialist to get it replace or order yourself some.

Means pre-installion is missing. Which means yoou either have to Reinstall a fresh copy of your windows or your can reinstall your windows by just repairing the files. Its always good to make a recovery disk after every install. If you haven't tried it already restart your pc press f8 as the scene pops up and go to Last good configuration.

the f8 function is only to try and remedy boot problems. the recovery option you're getting is to restore if you have already made recovery discs.
if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive you should be able to access it when you boot up. before starting your laptop press and hold 0(zero) key and power on the laptop. once it starts you should get a screen with 3 options then choose option 1 to get back to factory restore.

My toshiba satellite laptop L455-S5046 keeps saying when i start the computer media test failure, check cable and i dont have the recovery discs to reformat it. what do i do next? is there a place to...

The media test failure could indicate a failed hard drive. You can order one for cheap on newegg.com or pick one up at bestbuy for under $50 You would need a 2.5" sata hard drive. Comment if you need help installing it.
You will want to contact toshiba and order the recovery media. There is no way to just download it unfortunately.
Toshiba Support for the United States Computers: (800) 457-7777 (toll-free) or (949) 859-4273
Toshiba contact page http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/navShell.jsp?cf=su_contact&pf=true
Tell them you need to order "recovery discs" and they will probably ask for the serial number. I've seen the recovery media run from $16-80 depending on manufacturer.
Comment if you need additional assistance.

Useing toshiba recovery media center to create a back up of the computer 1/4 of the way through error code: 020123-F1-00000000

Hi, I bought a new Toshiba L850 today, installed Windows 7 (64 bit) and immediately attempted to create recovery discs (on quality Imation DVDs). I got the error described above and googled this site. This error prevents you from creating recovery discs. I have contacted both Toshiba support and support for the franchise that I bought the computer at. On another site a user reported the same problem and also contacted Toshiba support - "The second technician I talked gave me 3 options: send in the computer at a shipping cost (about $25), take it to the place I bought it, or pay for recovery disks ($29.95)". I'll be taking this computer back - it looks like it's broken out of the box.

Does my toshiba P200 have a sound card which

Yes, the Toshiba Satellite P200 does have a sound card.

Your laptop should have both headphone and microphone audio jacks on its outer edge somewhere.

maybe the shop formatted the hard drive including the recovery partition where all the files should be .so your disc cant find it .
if you can boot up into safe mode then use windows restore function to restore to an earlier time,if not you may have to get a set of recovery discs from toshiba

good luck
