Re: help me please!

Most likely if you are running an apple computer and you try to add another operating system, especially vista, unless you have the exact drivers that connect vista to the hardware, then you experience these types of problems

Sony Vaio VGN-AR71J Windows 7 upgrade issue

The solution which I'm about to provide you will erase all the data from your laptop hence, data backup is what you shall think first.
In order to do a fresh install on your laptop you are first required to format your HDD completely. You are required to delete all the partitions on it and recreate new partitions. Your version of Vista home is not allowing to upgrade to windows 7 because both of them are through Microsoft. You have three options at this stage to completely format your HDD
1. Use a DOS bootable CD. Go to any XP PC. Put a new CD inside it right click on CD driver in explorer select Format and then check on create a DOS startup disk. It will make a dos bootable CD put that CD in your laptop and boot through CD it will take you to command prompt. In command prompt you type format C: then again type format D: do it for all the partitions your laptop has if format doesn't work then you can use deltree command. Once the partitions are formatted you can boot through your Win7 CD and install the OS.
2. Use a linux installer CD. boot through Linux installer CD install linux on your laptop and then install win 7 on it.
3. Use a third party disk management tool through which you can boot and erase all the partitions on your laptop.

How-To Extract the Boot Camp Drivers from the Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard DMG

So, you've waited for hours and hours for your Leopard DMG to finish torre-I mean, download from the ADC website. You don't have an extra DL-DVD laying around or you just don't want to use one - that's fine, but when you use boot camp, you'll find it asks for the Leopard DVD anyways!

You don't have to download the drivers from anywhere, you can extract them and copy/paste them from OS X! Here's a step-by-step guide on making it easy.

Part 1

Do not mount the Leopard DMG. If it is mounted, unmount it and then restart (you must restart or it will not work, there's no way to get around it, sorry guys.)

Part 2

Open a new Terminal window. If you don't know where to find terminal it's in Applications/Utilities.

Type in:
sudo hdid -nomount
[Add a space to the end] and drag the Leopard DMG file from your hard drive to the terminal window. The path will appear, and you can hit enter on the command. This forces the HFS+ partition of the Leopard DMG to not load, allowing the ISO part of the DMG to be booted, which is what we need.

If you're not using sudo already, it'll ask you for your password, type it in, hit enter, and you'll be rewarded with the following:
/dev/disk? Apple_partition_scheme
/dev/disk?s1 Apple_partition_map
/dev/disk?s2 Apple_Driver_ATAPI
/dev/disk?s3 Apple_HFS
Take note of the "?" because you'll need to remember it in a little bit.

Part 3

We need to make a way for the volume to mount on your Mac, so type in:
mkdir /Volumes/drivers
You'll recieve no response but this is normal.

Part 4

You're almost there! We now need to force the DMG to load with the ISO volume instead of the HFS+ volume. To do so, simply type:
sudo mount -t cd9660 -o nodev,nosuid /dev/disk? /Volumes/drivers
Where ? is the number we mentioned earlier. Remeber not to include the 's1,' 's2,' or 's3' parts in this command.

Now you simply have to restart Finder, which is easy to do from terminal:
killall Finder
Now you just have to copy the drivers onto a USB drive [or burn them to a disc], boot into Windows and install.

I brought a 2bd hand Zoostorm netbook with an 8 gig ssd card, how can I copy an operating system onto the card as the XP on it is faulty, and will not start. I have a USB 3.5 inch floppy, and a USB cd...

You need to make a bootable usb install for windows (these directions are for vista but should be the same for xp)

This tutorial will help you in creating a bootable USB drive of Windows Vista which you can use to install Vista in any system. It might become very useful when you don't have access to DVD drive.
1. First format your USB drive in NTFS file system. You can do it by attaching your USB drive to your system and then format it from My Computer window.
2. Now open Command Prompt window from Start menu. Right-click on Command Prompt entry in start menu and select "Run as administrator" option.
3. Now type diskpart in Command Prompt window and press Enter. It'll launch DiskPart program:

4. Now provide following command:
list volume
It'll show a list of all drives in your system. Look for your USB drive entry. As in the below screenshot, the USB drive is "G" which you can determine from its "Type" entry.
Now you have to select the USB drive volume by providing select volume no. command. Since in our case volume no. of USB drive is "Volume 4", the command would be:
select volume 4
Now we have to make this drive active. So provide active command:
Now exit from DiskPart using exit command.

5. Now we need to create Boot sector on USB drive. We'll use "bootsect.exe" utility for this task. You can find this utility in Windows Vista setup disk. It'll be present in "Boot" directory.
Now provide following command in Command Prompt:
bootsect /nt60 G:
Here G is drive letter of USB drive. Replace it with the correct drive letter if your system has some other letter for USB drive.

6. At last, copy all files/folders from Vista Setup DVD to your USB drive and you have done.
Now you can boot using your USB drive and can install Windows Vista in any system.
