Phone won't hang up, stays on the line even after hitting 'OFF' button

I just found out that my Panasonic cordless phone has been on the line for at least the past day and everyone calling my house has been getting a busy signal. I unplugged everything, then replugged the lines, I got a dial tone. I hung up...then picked up the phone awhile later and was hearing the "please hang up..." message from my telephone provider before the screaming alert sounds. I tried the "OFF" button to hang up, then "TALK" again and it was still giving the alert sounds, the only way it stopped is if I unplugged the telephone cord. Have tried it over and over again and the same thing. The phone won't hang up...it's like it's going on 'HOLD' instead of 'OFF'. Had to go find a 20+ year old corded pulse dialing phone I still had in the basement, lol...please any idea what I can do to fix this issue?

We recommend you test the main base unit with a different telephone cord on a different telephone jack.

Testimonial: "I have done that, still the same thing. I have three handsets and all do the same thing. I have removed the battery also and tried my backup replacement new battery for the phone also and it's still doing the same thing. I have tried three separate telephone cords and also three different telephone jacks around the house. It seems it must be something wrong with the base unit of the phone, because the handsets seem to be fine, and doubt three different handsets would all have problems."

I actually have three handsets (or is it headsets?) total, and it must be something wrong with the base unit. I have tried three separate telephone cords and also three different telephone jacks around the house. It seems it must be something wrong with the base unit of the phone, because the handsets seem to be fine, and doubt three different handsets would all have problems.

I had this problem too. I popped the battery out, waited 1 minute then put it back in. Unfortunately this clears the memory of all recent calls, etc. but it immediately started working again. So far its only happened once...

SOURCE: Unable to hang up phone. The line is busy/can't make/receive call

sounds like you need a DSL filter, go to page 41 of the manual ("http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/KXTG1032.pdf" if you don't have it) good luck!

Turn ringer on

Go to Settings > SOUND > Silent mode (No sounds except media and alarms).
If this is ticked (on), it means umts smartphone alarm will sound even if you make the phone silent.
Regarding the loud sound even after reducing ringer volume, no idea for this.

I hit a button on phone, screen went blank, not able to dial. I put in the charger and it is fully charged

If battery is charged and phone is working simply do this: Press the power button for a few seconds, which is the same as the "hang up" button with red ink on it). Voila! It took me serveral days and a number of dealers telling me I had to pend $300 for a new phone before I uncovered this fix.

Panasonic phone system, won't release the phone line

You might try removing the battery pack and see if that resets the phone. If not, you probably have a component inside the phone that has failed.

On most cordless phones, it is not cost effective to have them repaired.

Phone keeps dropping calls

Same issue here. Have you checked the battery? I found out that on mine the battery was leaking and corroding the contacts. Need to call Panasonic to find out if they can do something (about 5 month old phone)

It sounds like rotary dialing

I have a similar Panasonic phone (KX_TGA101S).  Someone must have inadvertently changed the dial mode on you.  Here is how you change it on mine, which should be similar to yours.  Hit the Menu button.  Scroll down to "Set tel line" and hit the Menu Button (OK). If it isn't displayed, scroll to "Set Dial Mode" and hit the Menu Button. Select Tone instead of Pulse and hit the Menu Button.  That should do it.

3- way conference call with tga542m?

One of the two "soft buttons" at the top of the keypad (first row of keys under the handset's display) should read Flash when you are on a call. Hit that button, you'll hear the line tone, dial the number and wait for the other person to answer. Hit Flash again and they should be joined together. If not, you may need to subscribe to Call Waiting/3-way Calling through your telephone company.

Panasonic kx-tc1282jxb no hang up

Some phones answer when picked up off the charger, but with some you must press the talk button to answer. Some have a green reciever on the button. And to hang up you must press the off button or the button with the red reciever.
