I have the Allegro ABV441 VHS & DVD combo player. The VHS has no problem recording T.V. shows, but I can't seem to get the DVD player to record. Do I have to have a certain type of disc or is there more to it than just pushing the record button? I of course cannot find my owners manual and can't find anything else out there on the web on the subject. Thanks for any information you can provide. It is the ABV441 not the ABV511

Allegro ABV511 DVD/VCR combo. Audio OK on TV and with other DVD's. When I go to the main menu there is background music as usual. However playing the actual movie directly or with scene selection no audio. Video OK. This happened with all three movies (Die Hard 1-3). They play OK on my other DVD players. No problem with mute feature.

Remember those old TV's with the vertical and horizontal knobs? That's what I need for this VCR, as the picture won't stabilize from currently made recordings. Previously recorded VHS tapes (before this problem arose) playback just fine! Also, for a few weeks, everytime I tried to go into FF or REW (from a complete stop - as opposed to cue/review while in Play mode...which worked fine), an ERR message would flash....the VCR would turn off...and yet, the tape would either rewind or go forward for about half a minute (about 6 minutes actual tape time)...WHILE THE UNIT WAS OFF! (The direction seemed random). I'd keep starting and stopping the unit until the problem went away. Last few days, that prob is gone...time to junk the unit? Thanx! FACE PS: FF and REW also seem sluggish about half the time (tape will actually move at the speed of (as if in) Cue/Review while in play!)
