I recently changed the target lights to LEDs and also re-calibrated the pitches on a friends Technics 1210mk2's. The target lights work fine but now when i press the start/stop button both decks reverse slightly then go forward. This can also occur if i put pressure on the platters. To be honest they are not rotating very well at all. I've followed the youtube videos by Viperfrank on 3 previous occasions and all the decks have worked fine. Any ideas what might be causing this to happen because i'm stumped. Any help would be greatly recieved. Many thanks. Dan

Check that your voltage settings are set correctly. This is located
underneath your turntable platter. If you remove the slipmat, you will
see 2 holes on the metal platter. Rotate the platter till you see the
voltage switch, located @ the 9'o'clock position. Make sure it's set to
your correct settings (N.America = 115V / Euro = 220V). If not, you
will need a flat head screw driver to switch it. Before you switch it,
make sure your unit is off and unplugged. After you swich it, it should
be ok.
If your still having issues with the speed and the pop-up
light, then there is something seriously wrong, and will need to be
checked by a technician. Sometimes a resistor or IC will go bad,
causing the speed issue, but for the pop-up light - that's usually
faulty wiring generally caused by an incorrect replacement.
Did you buy this new or used? Have you had this serviced recently?

Make sure there is nothing on the magnet part of the platter. Also, sometimes, the screws that hold down the plastic protective cover underneath the platter might not be seated all the way. Lastly, look at the bottom of the magnet, and make sure that it is in tact, and nothing is bent, broken, or cracked.
Other than that, try switching out the platters from your other turntable, and see if the problem persists. You need to rule out what it is not, before you can proceed with finding out what is the problem. So if the noise moves to the other turntable, you know the issue is with the platter. If the noise remains on the same turntable, then you can rule out the platter being the culprit, and can isolate the issue to the turntable. I've never heard of this, and I've fixed well over 3000 Technics 1200MK2/MK3/MK5 turntables in the past 10 years. I am also considered THE 1200s MASTER. So, I am not sure what could be causing this noise, other than some foreign matter. If your in the NY metro area, bring it on by, and I'll take a look at it, or give us a call, and I'll try and refer someone locally for you:

did you ever open the turntable. It sounds like the on/off switch is bad. Remove the platter and screws with a phillips screw driver and just make sure the connections are in place. make sure you disconnect the power first. let me know what happens afterwards.

I suspect the "brake" adjustment has been badly adjusted - it will need correctly adjusting.
