Press PLAY MODE repeatedly (in STOP mode) to switch between different modes.

It won't be easy. The front buttons might not give you all the features. Buy a replacement remote.

Check the back for speaker wire shorts, next! there may be a short in the audio output chip or surrounding parts in the stereo, this is more suited for a technician to sort out.

You COULD have faulty hardware that cant take the power coming through the electrical, Its a warranty fix

On the remote click 'Function' and itll scroll through the settings.
Tape, CD, Tuner, Audio In.
Choose Audio In.
I know this may seem annoying but itll work.
