Ice Shoot area freezes up

Ours does the same thing, The little black flap that is supposed to close up when not dispensing wont close all the way or open all the way so Ice gets stuck as well as warmer air is constantly going into freezer as cold air escapes. Connot figure out how to get cover off to try to fix it without messing up freezer door. Any suggestions.

If you grab the control panel at the bottom (the thing where you select ice water etc...) it will pop off exposing the screws you will need to remove..the part you want to replace is the dooor flap solenoid its held in place with 3 screws and will be rusted causing the piston to stick

The ice does not dispense from the chute. The chute freezes up and the ice can no longer travel down the chute and out the dispenser. Can this be fixed?

Yes the flap is supposed to close completly to stop the moist kitchen air freezing in the chute and blocking it

Tip

Unthawing the water dispenser in the freezer door

If the icemaker is loaded with ice or certain areas of the freezer are perhaps overloaded redirecting cold air toward the water output it can freeze. Also if the ICE shoot has ice cubes obscuring it's closure that area gets cold enough to freeze the water. Check after dispensing ice that the round flap is closed.

I open the freezer door and place three regular sized bed pillows placed into white trash bags into the opening being sure to DEPRESS the light latch with one of the pillow placements so it won't constantly sound a door ajar warning.

I then close the door as much as the pillows will allow and place a chair in front to keep the pillows in place for about 25 minutes. Usually this will do it and the water will begin to flow . I draw off enough to run it completely through the entire line . Sometimes a small piece of ice will come out. I had tried hair dryers and all manner of things and just gave this a shot one day and it works when it freezes for whatever reason it will use.

Why won't my ice maker work

Hello Cynthia! Most likely the little "flap" inside the door of the dispenser is not closing all the way. My advice is to take all your ice out of the inside of the freezer. Clean and dry out that area as good as you can. Take your hand, and from the bottom, reach up and feel the flap that should close all the way when ice or water is dispensed. Take warm water, pour it from the top, you won't need much, and dry off the little flap as good as can be.
Now, press the ice button, and when you let go, you should hear a clunk or deep sounding slap, that is from the flap closing properly. Same goes for the water. However some manufacturers don't open the flap for water. From this point forward, assuming you heard the flap close, be sure it makes that same noise every single time you use the ice dispenser, or the water dispenser, and your problem should be solved.

Ice door flap will not close

I had a similar problem once. i opened the door and used a hair dryer blowing into the dispensing area of the door. There was a ice build up that was not visible with a quick look. It takes a while so be patient when thawing and be sure not to use too high of setting so you dont deform any of the plastic parts.

I have a Knmore side by side fridge, model 106.55606400. The ice dispenser have stopped dispensing ice. The icemaker working fine, the dispenser motor makes a sound when lever depressed for ice.Where do I...

One is the icemaker will leak on the auger motor and freeze it up as you describe. If this is the problem the ice will be very solid (hard ice). If this is the case check to see if the tube that feeds the icemaker water is clogged with ice and if so remove the ice and replace the water valve. If not the icemaker may be overflowing, which is still most likely due to a bad water valve.

The other thing that will cause this is an air leak. If it is an air leak the ice will be frosty more like snow than hard ice. But even so it will still cause the auger not to work. If this is the case check the little flap that opens and closes to let ice through the door to see if it is closing properly. Then check the door gasket to see if it is sealing properly.

Turning the temp. down shouldn't help nor hurt your problem.

My ice and water dispenser sticks. I have to open

The door flap may not be opening and closing completely thereby trapping the ice. There is a solenoid that operates the door that could have stopped working. Can you hear it?
The hinge on the door could be broken or the bracket it goes in could be broken. You'll have to look to see what's wrong.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

Frost builds up in dispenser area .hard to open because of frost buildup.

The ice dispensor flap is not closing completely , causing the frost in the inside shoot and on the bottom of the dispensor . Sometimes caused by a broken ice guide ( clear piece attached to the arm that activates the dispensor on the door ) it hits against the flap , not letting it close . Model number would have helped more .

Whirpool Side by Side Ice Dispenser Freezes up

Think you have it figured out. Just had a similar problem. The flap leaked air (moisture) up into the area which then froze. Then the customer chipped it out with a knife and not only damaged the flap seal worse but also made the chute area rough from the knife tip "burrs" in the plastic chute. A new flap door with factory seal along with sanding down the burrs cured the problem. Spraying something food grade like Pam cooking spray (very lightly) will aid in the ice cube/crushed ice to slide down the chute better. With any refer, keep the moisture out or it WILL freeze up stuff.
