Question about Canon PIXMA iP3000 InkJet Photo Printer
I just installed my new canon ip1300, and while trying to print it is giving me a message which says "service error 5100". restart the printer and try again, else refer to the manual.
Also the power lamp and the alarmm lamp are flashing alternately. According to the manual, after restarting the printer if this problem persists, contact the canon service rep.
Do I really need to call those guys?? Or can this problem be resolved?
Error 5100 is either a logic board, or
the code strip (if that is the problem) is another matter -
It is the plastic strip that runs across the printer and through the head
carriage, it is supported at each end (one end under spring tension).
If it has become dislodged it will give this error, also if it has any ink,
grease or other foreign matter on it, it will give errors.
You can clean it with a cloth dampened with water but you need to exercise
great care to avoid pulling it off its anchors.
The other thing to do is clean the stainless steel bar that the carriage sli
on and lubricate it with a cloth moistened with 3-in-1 or light machine oil.
If neither of these works then I guess it is repair shop or replacement time

I found a business card jammed in the front roller....removing it cause the 5100 error to go away. appearently the error was occurring during the start-up self-check.

My 2 year old son had a playtime with the printer whilst I was away from the printer. I found paper clips inside, which after removing them all (not easy!) the printer worked fine. It was giving service error 5100 before.

Thanks alot it work, i foud that one piece of plastic strip jam the catriage ink, so fix it(very small piece, so better check carefully guy)

1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more
8. Your printer should respond as normal.
