Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60WF655 60" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

TV powering on and off every few minutes

It did it for a short while a week ago and would power on and off every couple minutes. I turned the tv off for a bit and when it came back on everything was okay. Just turned tv on and it is continuing to do this. I have a Sony WEGA hdtv.

Last time the bulb went out the picture just got super dark. Could this be a sign that we need a new bulb? It has been about 2 years since our last bulb was bought. Thanks!

Yes, this is common in Sony's when the lamp begins to fail. You may even see a small sulfar looking burn on the lens of the lamp (that is what causes the pic to go dimmer). Remember not to touch the lens when replacing new lamp.

Lets read error code in TV, press Device and Menu buttons on front of TV at same time for 6 seconds that will activate error code read process. Led will flash in 2 sequence with half second pause. count it and let me know the error code to proceed.

TV shuts itself off after a couple minutes of being on.

One must be very careful of the quality of the replacement lamp. Many of the cheap 'deals' on the web for replacement lamps are substandard. I always recommend that replacement bulbs be the original manufacturers bulb.

Progressive power up problem

Yeppers. Sounds like the standby power supply has a bad capacitor in it and the regulator Ic is defective. These parts should only be replaced by quilified technician as there is very high voltage inside these sets. Good Luck

TV wont come on

Most likely cause would be a blown fuse on the power supply if you are getting no lights on the front, no response from the buttons, and no warmth from the back of the set. First check that not only is the power socket in the wall working, but also that the plug on the TV power cord is not faulty or distorted so it doesn't make the circuit when plugged into the wall, also if it has a fused plug, check that. Then if you feel up to taking the cover off, make sure the set is unplugged and leave it for a few minutes first. take off the back cover (usually a few screws around the base of the set, but it should be obvious) follow where the power cord enters the box, and about the first thing it should connect to is likely to have a fuse. Probably a couple of metal spring clips with a glass tube type fuse sitting in them. The fuse should have a rating stamped on it and you should be able to get a replacement at most hardware stores, but make sure you get the same type as well as rating. If a replacement fuse doesn't cure the problem then the next thing to suspect would be the transformer and rectifier circuit - the fuse should have protected these, but sometimes it doesn't work that way. If you need help checking these then please ask again, but I suspect the fuse is your problem. Hope this helps you out, please ask again if you need more info :)
