Re: dryer load

Hi Sue K,

I would limit the number of jeans to no more than 10 Child, or 7 adult jeans.

Washer & Dryer care & Maintenance

At least once a year, you want a qualified technician to come out to your home and clean out the dryer of built-up lint. This includes the housing holding the lint filter as well as pulling off the front and cleaning out the entire inside! What this does is allows the dryer to "breathe" and dry more efficiently. We're at a point now in society where rate caps are coming off of our electrical bills and we need to watch our pennies. But also, this extends the life of the dryer.

Washers are a little more common sense. DO NOT load above the basket past the top row of holes! What happens, is there is a coupler on the bottom of the basket that slides over the motor shaft and connects the gearcase (transmission) to the basket; hence the term, "Direct Drive". When you load past the holes, the weight of the water creates TOO MUCH weight, and eventually blows that coupler out!! You will know when it's shot because the basket won't turn at all!

The start button is flashing red and beeping and the drying cycle won't start. Help!

  • If the machine shakes or makes a lot of noise, make sure the dryer is level. Some shaking is normal, but it shouldn't bounce around like it's itching to go somewhere. Adjust the leveling legs. They just screw and unscrew. Check to make sure the load inside the dryer is properly distributed and is not all clumped together.
  • Match the control settings to the type of load, and make sure you're not overloading the dryer.
  • Check that the ducts aren't blocked if the clothes take too long to dry. Look for lint or missing socks. Check to make sure the ducting isn't kinked, and make sure the outside dryer vent flap moves freely and isn't blocked---by snow, for example.
  • Sort your clothes by weight if they aren't drying properly. Lightweight clothes should be dried separately from items like comforters.
  • Make sure the lint drawer is empty.
  • Press the "Stop" button or press the "Lock" button for three seconds if the controls don't work. Press the "Power" button to wake the dryer up if it won't start. Make sure the "Delay Start" button isn't flashing if the machine fails to start. Press "Start" again.
  • If you see only lights displayed on the screen and no numbers, it's normal. The dryer has detected a low level of moisture. Other normal behavior is when the time remaining jumps to a lower number---it's revising its estimated time remaining. When you can't make a selection and the dryer beeps twice, the dryness setting is incompatible with the chosen dry cycle hope this helps please tell me if it does

Washers are more advanced and stylish than ever before. When you're buying a washer, look for features that make washing easier and more efficient, less costly, and kinder to fabrics. Thanks to advances in technology, it's all possible - and our washer buying guide shows you how.

Washer Types
Feature options, capacity, energy use and style are all factors to consider when deciding between a front- or top-loading washer.
oth top-loading and front-loading washing machines will do a good job of cleaning your clothes. The most significant differences between these types of washers are capacity, energy efficiency, water use, feature options, and style.

Top-loading machines

Traditional top-loading washing machines are available in a wide assortment of models, price ranges and styles. The most basic top-loading washers perform very well and are generally a good value for a no-frills, clean wash. Other top-loaders offer more cycle and temperature selections, spin speeds, and fabric care extras as they increase in price. Overall, top-loading washers are generally less expensive to purchase than front-loading machines, but are slightly more costly to run because they use more water and electricity.

Most top-loaders fill the tub with enough water to cover the clothing, then agitate them to get the clothing clean. Some manufacturers now offer high-efficiency top-loading washers using a number of different technologies. One such technology is the Whirlpool® Calypso® wash plate. Instead of agitating fabrics to get them clean, the wash plate moves them through a shower of concentrated detergent and water. The action is gentler on fabrics; it's designed to provide better cleaning with far less stress to garment fibers. And with the agitator out of the way, the washer has more room to clean bulky items such as comforters and rugs.

Standard capacity for a top-loading washing machine is 12 to 16 pounds per load. The Calypso wash plate model can hold up to 18 pounds of laundry (think the equivalent of 16 pairs of jeans).

Here is a link to some Whirlpool washers for you to look over.

Amana dryer makes loud squeaking noise. When I ran just one pair of jeans the problem was gone, but with even a small load it squeaked loudly.

Call a technician and have them check the bushing and bearing of your motor. That means when your carrying heavy loads, the shafting of your motor is not able to allign, let them check it and put some lubricant if possible

I am trying to figure out the capacity on my Kitchen Aid dryer, model KEYS677EQ1.

dear customer the capacity for a dryer is mostly comen sense for example if you dry blankets they are farly heavy you can put as much as you like in your dryer but dont forget that wet cloth is heavy on your dryer or wet jeans it will work no problem but on the long run your dryer will wear out faster because of the weight normal clothe what goes in the washing machine goes in the dryer thankyou have a great day from gilles

Dryer capacity

Yes, a full size dryer as yours is easily capable of drying a full sized load from the washer you mentioned. The wash tubs in the new model washers and dryers still maintain a standard size. For example, the front loader dryer that I purchased to match my front loader washer is completely identical to earlier standard models without all the fancy packaging. I could have saved some money and purchased only the washer, but...the wife needed a matching pair.

Now, you will still have to properly sort items to ensure they dry efficiently. A copy of your dryer owner's manual will describe this to you. I'm not here to give you lessons in how to dry your clothes, but if you do not own a copy of your manual and would like to refer to it, you can obtain a copy at Just look under the "Service and Support" section for "Use and Care Manuals". Just type in your model number and your owner's manual is availble in a downloadable .pdf format.

The point I'm attempting to make here is that although you can place a full load from your washer in the dryer, if you do not properly separate certain items, they will not dry properly. I did not want you to think this was a cause of the appliance.

In addition, make sure the dryer vent ducting is properly cleaned and not clogged anywhere. This can also contribute to longer dry times.

I know you were only asking a simple question. I just wanted to be thorough in case additional question may arise. I hope this information is helpful to you.
