So to bios setup and go to boot, and change the boot order of your drives, dvd/cd rom, and hard drive changer the boot order to hard drive and escape enter and save exit and reboot
that should resolve the problem

My compaq mini atom won't boot shows f9=change boot order, when i press f9 it stops opening

It is most likely that your hard drive has gone bad or is no longer being recognized by the system. Run drive diagnostics check from the BIO and if the drive is faulty, replace the drive.

Can you boot from the hard drive?

When you turn the computer on watch the screen for which key to hit to Change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence then hit that key. You have to hit the key when the message is shown or you will have to start over.

The screen will also show you which key to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. You have to hit the key when the message is shown or it will not work and you will have to restart.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS defaults? In doing so, it will force IDE re-detection and often resolve vague boot issues.

How can I use External USB DVD rom for Boot to dell optiplex GX260 series.

You have to change the boot settings in bios (hit F2 as you see the Dell Logo) and in the boot menu look for one that says boot from USB, or external CD drive, and move it to the top of the list so it will boot before the hard drive does.

Your computer is not able to boot from your hard drive. That means that:
1) Your hard drive is defective
2) Your software on the hard drive is corrupted and needs to be reloaded

To determine if your hard drive is bad, you will need a bootableCD, you can use your "Dell Resource" CD or any other bootable CD disk. Power on the laptop and tapthe F12 key to get to the "Boot Selection Menu". Insert the "Resource CD" intothe CD-ROM drive. Select "Boot from CD/DVD drive" from the selection menu. If it boots from the CD you have a problem with the hard drive.

Dell latidude d610 wont start properly

Can you select "safe mode" from the boot menu? As much as I hate to recommend it, I think you should wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows (I hope you backed up everything of value on your computer). If you can't successfully reinstall the operating system, then I'd say, in all likelihood, you have a defective hard drive which would need to be replaced.

Multiple viruses on a Dell Dimension 1100

Formatting your hard-drive is the easiest way to eliminate anything on that hard-drive. Follow my steps below to do just that.

Start your computer so you can open the CD-ROM drive. Insert the Windows Installer into the CD-ROM drive. Close your CD-ROM Drive. Shut down your computer.

Now start your computer and while your system starts up look for an option for the, "Boot Menu" or, "Boot Device." It will have a key associated with it that you have to press continually for you to enter the menu. For instance:

(F8) Boot Menu.

Here's a hint to help you out. If you see the loading screen of your operating system, you've missed your window. Restart and try again.

Now just to clarify, we're not out to change the boot sequence, we're trying to boot from a specific device. Once you find that menu select your CD-ROM drive and press enter. It might ask you to, "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM drive." As it mentioned, press any key. Afterward the Windows Installer will launch.

Follow the directions on the screen to set up Windows. Yeah, it will warn you that there is another OS installed on your primary Hard Drive and that it might be better for you to, "Repair" your system. Ignore that and continue with the process to Install Windows. Before the final step to install Windows there is a screen that allows you to partition your hard-drive. In this are, erase ALL partitions. Afterward create a new one which will be your C:\ drive. If you want to partition your drive further, go ahead. However, at this point you can continue the Windows Installation and the Installer will ask you if you want to format with the NTFS or FAT32 type. Format with the NTFS type.

Now the Windows Installer will erase EVERYTHING on your hard-drive and proceed to install Windows XP.
