Did not work going into set up, sub is "on", actually it says "yes", and the maximum "0". Still not getting anything.

My sub has no power cord that goes to the wall, it has no on or off switch, and didnt have RAC cable. My sub woofer was working when it just had the bare wires, had connected it to the regular speakers. Bought RCA wire and now nothing.

Thats why. Too bad I dont get the power I should when I have it directly from the speaker wires. Thanks.

First, go into the "setup" mode of the receiver and go to speaker select, then toggle to sub, highlight and make sure it's "on" Then toggle to speaker volume and check the sub level. Maximum setting is "0". Make sure you are connected to the subwoofer output on the receiver as well. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I can help you some more.Hope this helps

Disconnect the sub RCA or digital then put your finger over the tip, does the sub humm loudly? if so that's good, if not, look at the back of the sub for a switch that say's "auto""off""on" switch it to on and make sure power light is on. Touch the sub cable again, if it still does not make any noise, the problem is in your sub not your receiver. If it does humm, set your receiver to "A.F.D" surround mode and test again. Beyond that, you will need to get it to a service center. Hope this does the trick!

Your sub is passive. it has no amplifier, it's getting it's power from the receivers speaker output and crossing the signal over internally to produce sub bass. Your receivers sub output is just signal not power, it's meant to be used for an amplified subwoofer. The way you had it hooked up prior to this is the way it is supposed to be. Direct from speaker wires.

I have a sony str de 325 receiver....what sub woofer will go with it and where do you plug it into the receiver?? Thanks

You will need a powered sub, one that has a built in amp. It will also need speaker terminal type inputs. Use the B channel to send signal to the woofer. Since the audio from the B channel is full range, use the crossover on the sub to determine which frequencies you want to hear. I would start at 100Hz and go up and down from there. Use the gain to adjust the volume in relation to the other speakers. The sub volume will be affected by the master volume.

If the model ??? JBL sub is self-powered like most just run an RCA cable from Sub Woofer Audio Out to it and select YES for Subwoofer in the setup menu.

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

Trying to use a passive subwoofer with STR-DE445

The output of the Sony is "signal only" not power. Being "passive" like your sub. What you need is a sub amp, and they are not cheap, 400-600 on average "min". Unless you have a Velodyne 15 or 18, just get an amplified sub, they start around 150 new. Hope this helps

It sounds like a bad solder connection. It just needs to be soldered up, if you take it into a shop just tell them it doesn't need any new parts, it just needs to be soldered up.

Or, if you can solder it yourself, or know someone that can, that would be much easier.

RCA Sub-Woofer

Did you try making sure the subwoofer is turned on under the set up menu on the Sony Receiver?

Press Set Up, Press the left or right button above the scroll wheel until you get to SW. It should say SW: ON or SW: OFF. If it says SW: OFF, use the Scroll wheel to scroll right until it says SW: ON. Also, make sure you aren't in 2CH mode, try A.F.D or surround sound.
