SOURCE: Cannot upgrade windows vista home premium from disc

Check the programs that vista says it can not update. They may be incompatible with Vista. You can find this out by running the Windows Vista upgrade advisor available for free at microsoft.com. If you really want Vista & can do without the offending programs you can uninstall them & then run the upgrade. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

if you want to install your updates then first try to check whether the update settings are set to automatic updates or not.
if not then go to control panel > windows update and set auto matic updates. if it is already done then
try MSCONFIG

ie. start > run > type 'msconfig'
go to 'services' and check whether the windows update service is checked or not if not, check the box
click ok
then restart your pc..

How do I install print shop 3.5 on Vista Home?

Insert the disc into the DVD drive in your computer. The installation should begin automatically or give a pop-up asking you what you would like to do. Select Run Setup.exe. Note: If the installation does not begin automatically follow these steps: Click on Start. Click on My Computer (Computer on Windows Vista and Windows 7) Right Click on the DVD drive containing The Print Shop 3.5 disc. Left Click on Open. Double Left Click on Setup.exe. The installer will now search your computer to make sure you have the required Windows Updates in order to install The Print Shop 3.5. If it detects that you are missing an update the installer will prompt you to install these now. Once the updates are complete the installer will move to the next step automatically. From here you should follow the on screen prompts to complete the installation.

How to obtain the latest Windows Vista service pack?

Introduction:
Windows Vista updates are distributed in service packs. Service packs
help keep Windows Vista current, and they can extend and update the
functionality of your computer. This article describes three
step-by-step methods that you can use to obtain the latest service
pack for Windows Vista. However, before you select the method that you
want to use, please make sure that the following conditions are true:
The service pack is not already installed on your computer.
You are logged on to your computer by using a user account that is a
computer administrator.
The computer on which you want to install the service pack is
connected to the Internet.
If you are not sure that all these conditions are true, please see the
"Before you try to download the latest Windows Vista service pack"
section. Otherwise, select the method that you want to use to download
and install the service pack.
Methods to download the latest service pack
Method 1: Turn on Automatic Updates (Recommended for most users)
Method 2: Check for updates on Windows Update (Same as Method 1 but
not automatic)
Method 3: Obtain the latest Windows Vista service pack from the
Microsoft Download Center (Good to use if the computer on which you
want to install the service pack is not connected to the Internet)
Important: Windows Update may not offer the latest Windows Vista
service pack to some users. This issue can occur for several reasons.

How do I Install updates for Microsoft Essentials if the Essentials Programm this refuse?

Normally Microsoft Essentials automatically updates itself along with other automatic updates to other parts of your Operating System (in your case, Windows Vista). But it sounds like there is something wrong here with your automatic settings. At the end of this advice, there will be a link to follow to give you the exact directions to follow to hopefully fix your problem. Once you get to the page this link will send you to, click on the link (in blue letters) that say "How to perform a clean boot." You will now see a circle with a dash in it and "How to perform a clean boot" inside a blue border. A bit further down you will see "Windows 7 and Windows Vista" in blue letters. Follow those directions and it should fix your problem. (Where it states that you might need "administrators rights," don't worry. Unless your computer was set-up with a specific administrator, YOU already have those rights.
Remember, follow the directions including following the links further down the same page. They are: "What is next when I have a clean boot environment" and "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting."
Another piece of advice - Print out ALL 3 sets of instructions before starting this procedure.

Reinstalling the wireless adapter

vista have this problem...

first, switch off computer and remove physically card from the computer, then de-install all possible traces of it, run ccleaner and clean the computer as well as registry.
go to d-link site and download newest drivers for your adapter, and os (vista). unfold software to c:/dlink

switch off computer again, re-install card and re-power the computer.

when automatic software install start, select manual install, point to newly created folder c:/dlink and select appriopriate driver from there, install.

this procedure usually solves the problem, vista try to instal generic windows drivers not specific hardware drivers, to prevent occurence of that, disable automatic updates in vista, and once a month or so, do only and only security updates from windows, never, ever update your hardware drivers from windows as these are just generic drivers generating more problems than solving. hope this help.

My hp 5740 won't print for my new hp laptop, but prints for an older Toshiba laptop. I tried downloading driver softwear, but nothing is helping. Please help

What OS does your new laptop have? If Windows 7 or Vista, the driver is in the OS. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&product=357202& has more information.

For Windows 7, the install is easiest if you have Windows Update set to automatically download and install updates for hardware. Click on the Windows key, in the Search Programs and Files box, type "change device installation" without the quotes. Click Change device installation settings, and the appropriate window will open. Select Yes, do this automatically (recommended) if it isn't the current option. Then Click Save Changes. Restart your computer if needed.

Then plug in the printer's USB cord to the printer and turn it on. Then connect the cable to the computer and watch for a Your devices are ready message.

If you have already connected the printer to the computer, but did not have Windows Update on automatic. Click the Windows key or the Start button, click on Windows Update. Look for any HP updates in the list and install. Try checking for new updates if you do not see the update.

Please note that you will lose some of the features of the printer. (the button for PhotoSmart Essentials will not work for example.) You will also need to set Printing Properties from File> Print > Properties instead of HP Toolbox.

I hope this helps.

I keep getting the same updates for Vista

If you don't want your computer to recieved updates that it's very annoying then Turn-off automatic system Updates. To do it just follow the instructions below:

Step 1 Click the "Start" button on the taskbar or press the "Windows Key" on your key board (located to the right of the Ctrl Key and left of the Alt Key)
  • Step 2 In the search box enter the words "Windows Update" without the quotes you can copy the text directly from this page to make it easier.
  • Step 3 On the left side of the window that opens it will have a list of options click on the option labeled "Change Settings".
  • Step 4 After that you will have to make some choices. If you select "Install update Automatically" then you simply pick a time that is good for you and your computer will download the updates and install them when you are not on your computer. If you select "Download updates but let me install them" then you will download updates in the background while you are using your computer and then will ask you are the files are downloaded if you are ready to install them. If you decide to select "Never Check For Updates" then your computer will never download or install updates.
  • Step 5 If you select "Never Check For Updates" then it is highly recommend that you open "Internet Explorer" and visit "http://update.microsoft.com" at least once a month and install any updates that are labeled critical.
